Kilambakkam railway station (station code:- ) is an under-construction Indian railway station in Chennai railway division of Southern Railway zone. The halt station is planned to serve the Chennai BeachChengalpattu section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network, primarily catering to passengers utilizing the nearby Kilambakkam bus terminus.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The plan for a new railway Station at Kilambakkam arised from the need to enhance connectivity for the newly established Kilambakkam bus terminus, a crucial transport hub for south-bound long-distance travel from Chennai aiming to offer last-mile connectivity to commuters.[3]

With a funding of ₹20 crore provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu through CMDA, the Southern Railway started construction. The station is planned to be opened by May 2025.[1][4]

Developments

[edit]

To further streamline passenger movement between the station and the bus terminus, the CMDA also plans for the construction of a skywalk to the station.[5]
