"Fantasy" (Chinese: 迷幻; pinyin: Mí huàn) is a song by Taiwanese recording artist Jolin Tsai. It was featured on her twelfth studio album Muse (2012), which was released on September 14, 2012. The lyrics were rewritten by Greeny Wu, whilst production was handled by Mikko Tamminen, Udo Mechels, Rike Boomgaarden, and Michael Lin.
Background and development
[edit]During the creative process of "Fantasy", Tsai shared with Greeny Wu her desire to create a song that emphasized equality in love for everybody, taking inspiration from the experiences and emotions of her gay friends. She stated, "I hope to dedicate this song to everyone who experiences genuine love, as in the world of love, everyone is equal." After hearing the song, director Bill Chia envisioned a contemporary Garden of Eden, and Tsai embodied the role of a modern Eve.[1]
Music video
[edit]
The music video for "Fantasy", directed by Bill Chia, was released on October 25, 2012. The filming took place at the Future Pavilion of Taipei Expo Park, with the "Garden of Eden" as its theme. The concept of the video highlights the universality of love, emphasizing that it should transcend boundaries of race, gender, and sexual orientation.[2] Tsai expressed, "In our lives, there are many relationships like this happening around us, whether it's between same-sex or opposite-sex couples. Love is equal, and the idea of the Garden of Eden in the video fits perfectly with the lyrics of 'Fantasy'."[3]
