Video Game Museum of CADPA (GMC) is a video game museum located in Xuhui District, Shanghai, China. It is guided by China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association, supported by Shanghai xuhui district people's Government, and organized by YYSTV Media.The museum opened on July 25, 2024.[1]

It is currently the largest professional video game museum in China, covering an area of 2,000 square meters. It features both permanent and temporary exhibition areas, with a total exhibition space of approximately 1,500 square meters.[2]

History

In 2023,YYSTV Media temporarily set up a video game archive in Beijing.[3]

On June 28, 2024, the China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association(CADPA) officially announced that the Video Game Museum of CADPA(GMC) would be located in Shanghai.

On July 25, 2024, the museum officially opened in Caohejing, Xuhui District, further strengthening the gaming industry ecosystem.[1]

From July 26 to July 29, 2024, the museum conducted a short trial operation.[4]

On September 13, 2024, the museum began long-term public operation.[1][5]

In September 2024, the museum collaborated with Shengqu Games (China) and Square Enix (Japan) to host a one-month exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of Final Fantasy XIV's Chinese server, attracting over 7,000 visitors.[citation needed]

In January 2025, the museum partnered with SEGA (Japan) to launch an exhibition commemorating the release of Prepurchase Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which drew over 4,000 visitors.[citation needed]

The Video Game Museum of CADPA covers an area of 2,000 square meters and features four permanent exhibition zones: The Origins of Video Games, The Rise of Console Games, The Boom of PC Games, and The Development of Chinese Games. The museum houses a collection of over 5,000 game-related artifacts, which occupy the entire third floor of the building. Additionally, the museum offers a variety of interactive experiences based on various machines previously produced by companies such as Nintendo, SEGA, Sony, and Microsoft, including the FC, PS2, Xbox, Cassidy Learning Machine, and Dreamcast.[4]
