"The Question of U" is a song by American musician Prince from the 1990 soundtrack album Graffiti Bridge. The song was created during the sessions of the short-lived band, The Flesh, being reworked on multiple dates before ending up on the album.[2]
Composition
[edit]The song starts with a layered flute playing an arpeggio. The song's main groove is built around a 6
8 pattern of a kick drum with slapback delay, snare, hi-hats, bass, and guitar being played with a wah pedal. Prince joins in with electric piano for the song's only verse and chorus. The song ends with a guitar solo, synth solo, and fading out on a harpsichord solo.
Music video
[edit]A music video was for "The Question of U" was made using live footage of the song from the Tokyo Dome stop of the Nude Tour.[3]

[edit]Prince performed the song regularly on the Nude Tour and the Musicology Live 2004ever tour, and occasionally on the Piano & a Microphone Tour.[5][6][7]
In 2000, the band Earthsuit sampled the song's flute arpeggio in their song "Said the Sun to the Shine".[8]
