Olive Trees of the Streets (Arabic: زيتون الشوارع) is a novel from the Palestinian Comedy series by the Palestinian Arab author Ibrahim Nasrallah.[1][2] The novel was first published in 2002 by the Arab Institute for Studies and Publishing and later by the Arab Scientific Publishers.[3]

[edit]The novel revolves around the lives of three female characters,[4] beginning before the Nakba, passing through the Naksa, and spanning over half a century.[5] It deeply explores themes of exile and persuasion, but at its core, the story is dominated by the harrowing subject of rape. The narrative unfolds in a charged atmosphere of anger, defiance, and rebellion, often leaving the reader breathless. Engaging with pivotal and sensitive moments in Arab and Palestinian history, the novel captures a time when defeat comes from within, where weakness stems from the heart and mind, and signs of fragmentation are glaringly present yet go unnoticed.[6]
