The Nile Ritz-Carlton, is a hotel in Cairo, Egypt's capital. It is located next to Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum.
History
[edit]The hotel originally opened in 1959 as the Nile Hilton. It was inaugurated by the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and the late King Hussein of Jordan [1]. The hotel is managed by Hilton International
In 2011, the hotel closed for renovations, and after a transformation costing 940 million Egyptian pounds ($84m)[2] [3], it reopened in November 2015 under The Ritz-Carlton brand [4], with Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail attending the inauguration.[5] [6]
Rehabilitation and Award Recognition
[edit]The rehabilitation project included updates to the building’s curtain wall, fire and security systems, and careful scheduling to ensure safety during periods of civil activity near Tahrir Square. This project was recognized with an Award of Merit in Renovation/Restoration by Engineering News-Record in September 2016[7]
