netboot.xyz is a free and open source network boot tool that allows users to boot into various operating systems and utilities over the network. It is a wrapper around the iPXE project, an open source network boot firmware implementation, that provides a customizable and dynamic boot menu. This tool is particularly useful for system administrators and IT professionals who need to manage and deploy multiple operating systems across different machines without the need for physical media like USB drives or CDs. [1][2] The tool is not only used by hobbyists but also used by many different web hosting providers.[3][4]

Features

[edit]

netboot.xyz supports booting a variety of operating systems, utilities, and tools using minimal installer kernels, providing a lightweight experience without the need to download full ISO of the distribution. It includes support for various Linux distributions such as Fedora, OpenSUSE, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, as well as BSD variants and Microsoft Windows installation media.

Users have the ability to explore many different types of Linux Distributions, can customize their boot menu to include their preferred operating systems and tools and allows them for a tailored boot environment that meets specific requirements. It significantly reduces the time and effort required for PC or server setup.

The tool also includes a range of utilities for system rescue and recovery, including disk cloning, partitioning tools, and diagnostic utilities.

It supports IA-32, x86-64, and ARM64 architectures.
