The NATO Stability Policing Centre of Excellence (NATO SP COE) is a multinational military body based in Vicenza, Italy. Accredited in April 2015, it supports NATO and partner nations in the field of Stability Policing — police-related activities intended to reinforce or temporarily replace indigenous police to uphold public order, rule of law and human rights.[1]

Mission

[edit]

NATO SP COE contributes to the development of NATO doctrine, training programmes, standardization, lessons learned and concept development in Stability Policing operations.[1]

History

The initiative was proposed in 2010 by the Italian Carabinieri. After establishment conferences in 2013–2014 and a signing ceremony in December 2014, the Centre was accredited by NATO Allied Command Transformation in May 2015.[2]

Activities

[edit]

The Centre provides educational courses (e.g., battlefield evidence collection, crime-scene preservation), organizes workshops and conferences, engages in concept development, conducts research, and fosters cooperation with Allied and external partners.[3]

Sponsoring Nations

[edit]

The framework nation is Italy. Sponsoring nations include the Czech Republic, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and Türkiye.[1]
