  • Comment: Charting seems to be the only criteria for establishing notability, and the "Official UK Rock and Metal Albums Chart" doesn't seem to be meet the criteria at WP:CHARTS Flat Out (talk) 05:51, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Marisa And The Moths, often abbreviated as MATM, is a British alternative rock band from Reading, England. Formed in 2017, the band has released two studio albums to date and has achieved chart success in the United Kingdom. The band is currently composed of Marisa Rodriguez (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Piano), Liam Barnes (Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals), Alessio D’Elia (Lead Guitar), and Alex Ribchester (Drums).

History

[edit]

Formation (2017-2019)

[edit]

Marisa And The Moths was founded by vocalist and principal songwriter Marisa Rodriguez after recording several songs at Stakeout Studios with producer and original Reuben drummer Jason Wilson. Sophie Lloyd, a prominent YouTuber guitarist and current member of Machine Gun Kelly’s backing band, joined during these sessions. The original line-up was completed with Chris Merton (currently in Sophie Lloyd’s backing band) and Liam Barnes on bass.

Self-Titled Debut Album (2019)

[edit]

The band released their self-titled debut album in November 2019, receiving positive reviews from major outlets such as Kerrang! and Classic Rock Magazine. The album reached No. 66 in the Official UK Album Downloads Chart.[1] The band's promotional touring for the debut album was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to rescheduled tours and line-up changes. Sophie Lloyd left the band in May 2020, followed by Chris Merton in June 2020 and Jason Wilson in October 2020.

Damned If I Do EP (2023)

[edit]

Between 2020 and 2022, several musicians auditioned and performed live with the band. The final line-up stabilized with the addition of Alessio ‘Alez’ D’Elia (Lead Guitar) and Alex Ribchester (Drums). During this period, the band played at major UK festivals such as 2000 Trees and Planet Rockstock. This culminated in the release of the Damned If I Do EP in January 2023.

Marisa Rodriguez Collaborations

[edit]

In April 2023, Marisa Rodriguez joined Elvana as a backing vocalist, later supporting the band at festivals such as Download and Glastonbury. She also contributed the song "Won’t You Come" to Sophie Lloyd’s debut album Imposter Syndrome (November 2023), which also featured collaborations with Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Chris Robertson (Black Stone Cherry), Matt Heafy (Trivium), and Michael Starr (Steel Panther).

What Doesn’t Kill You (2024)

[edit]

Following a UK tour supporting Elvana, Marisa And The Moths released their sophomore album What Doesn't Kill You in May 2024. The album reached No. 1 in the Official UK Rock and Metal Albums Chart[2] and secured multiple chart positions, including No. 9 on the Official UK Independent Albums Chart and No. 4 on the Indie Breakers Chart[3]

Musical Style and Influence

[edit]

Marisa And The Moths are known for their dynamic sound, blending elements of hard rock and grunge with pop melodies. Their music frequently explores themes such as mental health, toxic relationships, trauma, and self-discovery. Reviews from publications such as Metal Hammer (UK Issue 387), Classic Rock Magazine (UK Issue 269), Livewire Music[4] and others[5][6][7] have praised Marisa Rodriguez’s vocal prowess
