Maa Vindhyavasini University (MVVU) is a proposed state university located in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India.[1] The university campus is currently under construction, and it is intended to serve as a higher education institution for the Mirzapur division, with jurisdiction over the districts of Mirzapur, Bhadohi, and Sonbhadra.[2] The establishment of the university was proposed through an amendment to the Uttar Pradesh State University Act, 1973, and was officially approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet in October 2023 along with two other state universities in Gonda and Moradabad.[3][4][5] In 2023, Professor Shobha Gaur was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university.[6] On March 16, 2024, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for the university in Mirzapur.[7] Later in 2024, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan confirmed that the way for construction had been cleared.[8] In November 2024, CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure the timely completion of the university's construction.[9]
History
[edit]The proposal for Maa Vindhyavasini University was initiated to address the need for higher education facilities in the Mirzapur division of Uttar Pradesh. On October 11, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the establishment of the university, alongside two other state universities in Gonda and Moradabad, marking a significant step toward expanding access to higher education in the state.[3] In the same year, Professor Shobha Gaur was appointed as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor, furthering progress toward the university's establishment.[6] On March 16, 2024, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for the university in Mirzapur, marking the official beginning of construction activities.[7] Later in 2024, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan confirmed that the way for construction had been cleared.[8] In November 2024, CM Yogi Adityanath reviewed the progress and instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of the university's construction.[9]
Campus
[edit]The university campus is located in a rural area of Marihan in Mirzapur district and is currently under construction. On March 16, 2024, the foundation stone for the campus was laid by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.[7] Later in 2024, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan confirmed that the way for construction had been cleared.[8]
