Kesari Veer - Legends of Somnath is an upcoming Indian historical action drama film directed by Prince Dhiman. The film is produced by Kanu Chauhan under the banner of Chauhan Studios Starring Sooraj Pancholi, Suniel Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi, the movie narrates the tale of Hamirji Gohil, a brave warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to protect the Somnath Temple and the Hindu faith. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on 16 May 2025.[1]
Plot
[edit]Set in the late 14th century, the film follows the journey of Hamirji Gohil, a young warrior from the village of Arthilain Gujarat, who sacrifices his life to preserve Hinduism. As the Tughlaq Empire expands under Zafar Khan, the Subedar of Gujarat, he enforces Islamic conversion and destroys temples. Refusing to succumb, Hamirji seeks to unite Gujarat’s kings against Zafar Khan but is met with rejection.[2][3]
Undeterred, Hamirji reaches Somnath Temple during Mahashivratri to rally Hindu forces. When Rasool Khan launches a surprise attack, Hamirji’s courage leads to his victory over Rasool Khan. Enraged, Zafar Khan orders the destruction of all temples, starting with Somnath. With only 200 soldiers, Hamirji faces the massive Tughlaq army, aided by Vegdabhil. Despite their valor and strategy, they are vastly outnumbered. Hamirji fights till his last breath, ensuring that Somnath Temple and the faith of Hindus remain unshaken.[4]

[edit]The film was announced in 2024, with Kanu Chauhan helming the project. The script, written by Kanu Chauhan and Shitiz Srivastava, focuses on a lesser-known yet significant chapter of Indian history. The screenplay and dialogues are also penned by Kanu Chauhan and Shitiz Srivastava.[8][9]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography began in 2024 across various locations, including historic sites in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The battle sequences were choreographed to depict authentic 14th-century warfare. Filming spanned 120 days across Mumbai and Gujarat, and as of early 2025, the film entered post-production, with a release anticipated later in the year.[10][11][12][13]
Release
[edit]Kesari Veer - Legends of Somnath is scheduled to be released on 16 May 2025. It was originally slated for a theatrical release on 14 March 2025, but was delayed for a more impactful launch.
