Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind or Army of Caliphate in India, was a Jihadist Militant group operating in the Indian Sub-Continent, with ties to the Islamic State. Many members came from the Indian Mujahideen or IM.[1]The group may have merged with 2 other Jihadist groups (Ansar-ut Tawhid fi Bilad al-Hind & Islamic State Jammu & Kashmir) in 2019 to form the Islamic State - Hind Province, an official Islamic State province.

History

[edit]

Mumbai resident Mudabbir Sheikh (33), had designated himself as the Emir of Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind

Members were trained in Kandahar, Afghanistan.[2]

The group has arranged finances so recruits could travel to Syria and join the Islamic State.

In 2016, 14 members of Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-hind were arrested in a operation carried out by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and counter-terrorism agencies from Six Indian States.[3]

Shafi Armar fled to Pakistan in 2009 with a few top-ranking members of the Indian Mujahideen before moving on to join the Islamic State. He and his brother Sultan Armar (Founders of the group) were killed during Syrian Civil War in 2015, which was only confirmed in 2019.[4] Shafi Armer was said to operate from Syria and during the 2010's he had put together around two dozen Islamic State members in India.[5]

Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind published a Pro-Islamic State propaganda magazine Sawt al-Hind (Voice of India) during February of 2020.

In 2021, 6 Islamic State sympathizers (Likely Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind) were arrested days before the Indian Republic Day.
