Fiery Angel is a British theatre production company founded in 1997 by Edward Snape and Marilyn Eardley.[1]

History

[edit]

In 1992, Edward Snape discovered the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s production The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) at the Edinburgh Fringe, and helped facilitate its transfer to the West End[2], where it performed at the Arts Theatre. During this time, Snape met Marilyn Eardley, who had worked at The Renaissance Theatre Company alongside Sir Kenneth Branagh[3], and began their producing collaboration. Snape would later transfer Kindertransport to the Vaudeville Theatre in 1996, before founding the company Fiery Angel in 1997.

The company’s subsequent theatrical productions have included Patrick Barlow’s The 39 Steps[4], which played at the West End’s Criterion Theatre from 2006 to 2015 (with a West End revival and UK tour in 2024), the 2018 West End production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night starring Lesley Manville and Jeremy Irons and the sell-out revival of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s one-woman show Fleabag at Wyndham’s Theatre.

Fiery Angel has collaborated extensively with Branagh, presenting The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s 2015-16 residency at the Garrick Theatre, including The Winter’s Tale starring Branagh and Judi Dench[5], alongside the 2023 West End production of King Lear at Wyndham’s Theatre (directed by and starring Branagh), which transferred to New York’s The Shed in 2024[6].

Associated companies

[edit]

The Fiery Angel banner also encompasses four associated companies - The Children’s Theatre Partnership, Fiery Angel Entertainment, Fierylight and Fiery Dragons.

Children's Theatre Partnership

[edit]

Children’s Theatre Partnership was established in 2010, and has produced eight shows to date which have played both in the West End and on UK-wide tours. An early production was Swallows and Amazons, which played at the Vaudeville Theatre in 2011 before a UK tour[7]. Other productions have included multiple West End runs and UK tours of Goodnight Mister Tom, and tours of Animal Farm, Running Wild and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

In 2024, the Children’s Theatre Partnership toured an adaptation of Onjali Q. Raúf’s The Boy at the Back of the Class.

Fiery Entertainment

[edit]

Fiery Entertainment was established in 2017, focused on live entertainment production, comedy and music.

The company’s productions have included a one-off musical concert performance of Guys and Dolls[8] at the Royal Albert Hall starring Adrian Lester, Jason Manford, Lara Pulver, Clive Rowe and Sharon D Clarke, an ongoing tour with Rob Brydon and multiple Christmas seasons of Circus 1903 at the Southbank Centre.

Fierylight

[edit]

Fierylight was established in 2006, focused on live family entertainment productions.

It is perhaps best known for producing the first theatrical Peppa Pig live shows, which have toured the UK as well as performing seasons in the West End[9]. Other productions include adaptations of Julia Donaldson’s The Smartest Giant in Town and of Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom.

Fiery Dragons

[edit]

Fiery Dragons was established in 2011, and functions as an investor-producer involved primarily in the West End, but also in Broadway.

The company has produced various commercial transfers of National Theatre productions such as The Lehman Trilogy, Dear England and The Motive and the Cue, alongside other long-running West End productions such as Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Cabaret.

In 2024, the company launched Fiery Dragons II in an expansion of its producing operations.
