Career

[edit]

Emily Long

[edit]

Wildwood released her early music under her birth name, Emily Long, beginning with a collaboration with post hardcore band The Bled, "My Cyanide Catharsis" (2003), a debut EP, Cosmetic Liquor Love Songs (2007), and two studio albums, When I Was In Love With (2009) and Dirty Face (2011). She recorded the latter album in Woodstock, New York with Coheed and Cambria producer Chris Bittner after catching his interest at a show.

After a string of SXSW appearances, Emmy earned synchs of her music on The WB's "The Lake" and "Sorority Forever", as well as a placement on the Universal Records compilation "Bad Girls Don't Cry" (alongside Amy Winehouse and Duffy).[3]

Velta

[edit]

In 2011, Wildwood formed a punk band called Velta, which had a more lo-fi punk rock sound. The trio, alongside Zach Jones (drums) and Derek Blauser (bass), collaborated with TV On The Radio's Kyp Malone ("Let's Get Married") and released two EPs, Dead Ringer (2011) and Come Alive (2012). The group's success helped earn Wildwood an appearance in a Converse ad and inclusion in an issue of Italian Vogue.

In 2013, Wildwood released her debut singles under her new moniker, "Chick Chick Boom (Tired of Love)" and "Luxurious Problems," which earned early support from Ryan Seacrest and Patricia Field on their company blogs as well as media support from the Deli Magazine and the Village Voice.[4][5][6] In 2015, Wildwood released her debut EP, Mean Love, which earned support from HuffPost and Refinery29, who said that it took "post-breakup jams into new territory" with "avant-garde vocals and electro-rock rhythms.[7]" She followed it up with a mash-up of Sia's "Breathe Me" and Major Lazer's "Lean On" alongside producer Bredahl (Nik Lokensgaard). The track premiered via Billboard, who said "you're going to want to check out this mash-up.[8]"

In 2017, Wildwood returned to her hometown of Tucson, Arizona to reconnect with her roots after a decade spent living and playing in New York City. The desert town's lo fi spirit helped her reconnect with her own punk & DIY origins.[9] The move resulted in a string of singles: "Down Down" earned support from Paper Magazine, who called her "the love child of Kate Bush and Sia," and Galore, who called the music video "trippy," while "Everything Hurts" premiered via BUST Magazine and earned support from Uproxx and NYLON.[10][11][12][13][14] Both appeared on her EP, All My Blood (2020).

In 2019, Wildwood learned ProTools and began self-producing her own music. The result came with her debut full-length album, Heavy Petals, which dropped in March 2020.[15] The album earned support from American Songwriter and Phoenix New Times, and was named one of Tucson Weekly's Best Local Albums of the year.[16][17][18] She documented the recording process via an Instagram TV blog, also titled "Heavy Petals," where she showed the ProTools learning process.

Since the pandemic, Wildwood has released a collaboration with producer Chris Kuffner (Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson) called "Mosh The Pit," a string of EPs -- How To Break Up (2022) and Somethings Are Forever (2022) -- and her second studio album, Legend In A Few Minds (2022).[19]

Tiger Blanket

[edit]

In 2012, Wildwood opened and operated a vintage boutique and record label, Tiger Blanket Records & Vintage Boutique, on Graham Avenue in Brooklyn. The label produced limited edition 7" vinyl for local bands including Mother Feather and Erin Mary & The West Island, and hosted pop-up events and concerts. Time Out New York named her one of their "Most Fashionable New Yorkers" that year, while the Village Voice hailed her as their "Best Indie Pop Star" in their annual Best Of issue.[20]

Guns N' Hoses

[edit]

Wildwood plays rhythm guitar (as Lizzy Stradlin) in the all-female Guns N' Roses tribute band, Guns N' Hoses, which was named Best Tribute Band by the Village Voice in 2014, and has appeared in BUST Magazine and New York Magazine's Bedford + Bowery.[21][22] The group has been described ad a "super group" that includes fellow musicians Erin Marsz, Charlene Kaye, Mia Swier, and Gina Ilasi. Performance highlights include a televised set on Good Day L.A. in 2013, and sets in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska in 2015, in Newfoundland, Canada in 2015, and at VH1 India's Rocktoberfest in 2016.

Notably the group once crossed paths with Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash at a rehearsal space in Los Angeles. He dropped in after hearing their rendition of "Sweet Child of Mine" through the wall. It impressed him enough to later post to Twitter, "Just met an all-girl band called Guns N' Hoses... Cool chicks!... they sound pretty tight, I have to say.[23]"

Film/TV Composing

[edit]

Wildwood's music has soundtracked many film/tv projects, beginning with synch placements on The WB's "The Lake" and "Sorority Forever." In 2015, she wrote and recorded a song, "Scream," specifically for FOX's TV series "Scream Queens" starring Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis. The track featured in all digital promos for the series and premiered via NYLON, who called it "a fright fest" and "simply haunting.[24]"

In 2025, she wrote and composed the score for the short film "Mourned," which was directed by her bandmate Erin Marsz.

The Video & Vinyl Club

[edit]

In 2024, Wildwood launched a podcast called The Video & Vinyl Club, which she hosts with her Guns N' Hoses bandmate Erin Marsz. The podcast has featured interviews with Lee Leshen, a documentary filmmaker and president of Patchwork Media, and costume designer and stylist Olga Turka.

[edit]

Wildwood was born in Tucson, Arizona. She is a fourth generation Tucsonan, and her family established and previously owned Long Realty, a real estate corporation. She learned guitar at the age of 11 and taught herself piano at 15.

In 2001, Wildwood completed beauty school, where she trained in hair and makeup. In 2006, she opened and operated a vintage boutique in downtown Tucson called The Hang Up, which catered to the local college crowd and was featured in Tucson Weekly. After it gained popularity, she sold the business for a profit to fund a move to New York City to pursue a music career.
