Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. The Budapest International Film Festival (BIFF) is a contemporary film festival held annually in Budapest, Hungary. Launched in 2024, BIFF is cultural event that aims to position Budapest as a hub for international and Central European cinema. The inaugural edition took place from October 29 to November 3, 2024, primarily at Corvin Cinema, one of the city's iconic film venues.
Overview and mission
[edit]BIFF features a diverse lineup of fiction films, documentaries, and experimental works, showcasing both acclaimed titles from the global festival circuit and lesser-known independent productions.
Programs and events
[edit]BIFF is not limited to traditional film screenings. The festival is known for its vibrant and youthful atmosphere, offering side programs that include:
- Special outdoor screenings
- Thematic parties and networking events
- Art exhibitions related to cinema and visual culture
- Masterclasses with international and local filmmakers
- Roundtable discussions and Q&A sessions
- Public debates on film, culture, and society
Cine-Collegium Budapest (CCB)
[edit]One of BIFF's major initiatives was creating Cine-Collegium Budapest, a foundation aimed at helping produce at least one Hungarian feature film per year without relying on government funding. It is supported through donations from the Hungarian film industry, international productions shooting in Hungary, arts patrons, and the public. Each year, the foundation provides a young filmmaker with the chance to make their first or second feature film, and aims to eventually become an independent alternative source of film financing in Hungary.
