The Blickle group is a German manufacturer of wheels and castors. The company currently has around 1300 employees worldwide, with over 900 based at the headquarters in Rosenfeld, Germany.

History

[edit]

The company was founded in 1953 when Wilhelm Sülzle split his ironware factory into three separate companies, divided between his sons and his son-in-law, Heinrich Blickle. The newly founded Blickle company took over the production of iron wheelbarrow wheels and established a range of high quality wheels, swivel castors and fixed castors. After the sudden death of the founder Heinrich Blickle, his wife Elisabeth Blickle took over the management of the company in 1961. In 1967, the first international Blickle sales branch was established in Switzerland.

This was followed in 1972 by the construction of a new administration and production building in the Rosenfeld industrial estate, where the company's headquarters are still located today. In 1977, Reinhold Blickle, the eldest son of the company founder and thus the second generation, joined the company.[2] The administrative building was extended at the beginning of the 1980s. In 1992, Blickle took over the "light duty castors" production area of the company Hülsbeck & Fürst in Velbert. In 1998, Blickle started manufacturing polyurethane wheels.

In the course of further growth, the new administration building was completed and occupied in 2002. In 2006, a new branch of production was created with the investment in a plastic injection moulding company and the founding of BW-Plast GmbH.[3] The company was integrated directly at the Rosenfeld site. In 2010, Blickle invested in a logistics centre with an automatic high-rack warehouse and small parts storage. In 2013, the Blickle sales company was founded in Taicang, China. In 2014, Blickle took over the Swiss castor manufacturer Progressus AG.[4] In 2015, a third high-rack warehouse with a height of 40 metres was built at the headquarters in Rosenfeld. Dr Sarah Blickle-Fenner and David Blickle, the third generation, joined the company in 2017. Both were appointed Managing Directors of the Blickle Group in 2021 after working for the company for several years. In 2020, construction began on a new polyurethane production facility and a new administration building with the Blickle Experience Centre and the company restaurant. These buildings were inaugurated in July 2023 to mark the company's anniversary.

Over the last few decades, the family-run company has developed into one of the world's leading manufacturers of wheels and castors.[5]
