Bibliotheca is a multinational library technology company headquartered in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, United States.[1]. It develops self-service, extended access, communication, security, automated material handling, and mobile solutions for public, academic, and private libraries worldwide.

History

[edit]

The company was formed in 2011 through the merger of three independent library technology firms: Bibliotheca (Switzerland), Intellident (United Kingdom), and Integrated Technology Group, ITG (North America)[2][3].

In 2012, the group acquired Trion AG, a European provider of automated material handling solutions[4][5]. In 2015, Bibliotheca acquired the Library Systems division of 3M, integrating its self-service and security solutions into its product portfolio[6][7].

In 2024, Bibliotheca sold its cloudLibrary platform to OCLC, a nonprofit library technology cooperative[8].

Structure

[edit]

Bibliotheca operates in multiple regions, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Bibliotheca is financially backed by One Equity Partners, a division of JP Morgan Chase & Co[9].

In 2025, Bibliotheca signed a lease for a new facility in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, consolidating shipping and office operations into a 32,000-square-foot space[1].

The company has regional offices in the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. Additionally, Bibliotheca partners with distributors across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa to support library technology implementations[10].
