Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital was built to host mentally ill patients from the then Akuse Asylum. It provide specialist Psychiatric services as well as general outpatient services to the public.[1] [2]

History

Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital was established by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1965. The hospital provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services to the general public.

The facility was designated as a 500 bed hospital in response to Ghana hosting the Organisation of Africa Unity (O.A.U) conference in May 1965.[3]

The Wesley Girls’ High School past students raised funds and donated mattresses to renovate one of the wards. The renovation was completed In May 2020..[4][5]
The hospital currently has seven active wards, two temporary detention wards, and an outpatient department (OPD) for general medical care.[6]

Donation

Hands of God Foundation donated equipment and consumables to the hospital.[7] Pentecost International Worship Center Takoardi donated assorted items to the hospital.[8]
