Amir Pourkhalaji (Persian: امیر پورخلجی; born 9 jan 1983)[1] is an Iranian Composer and Conductor.[2][3]

Early Life

[edit]

He was born in 1983 in Tehran, Iran. He began music as a child, playing the Violin.[4] He then continued his music education at the Tehran Conservatory of Music, playing the Viola. After completing his undergraduate studies, he entered the University of Art, where he graduated with a master's degree in composition in 2009.[5][6]

Musical Career

[edit]

Pourkhalaji has composed works for contemporary orchestral and film music. He has collaborated with several orchestras, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine,[7] the Prague Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra,[8] the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra,[9] and the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. His works have been performed at international festivals such as the Tirgan Festival in Canada and the Fajr Music Festival in Iran, where he received the Barbad Award for Best Composer.

His orchestral compositions include Arash the Archer Suite,[10] Hafez Opera[11], and Twelve Faces Battle, which integrate Persian musical elements with large-scale symphonic structures. In addition to orchestral music, he has composed film scores for short films and animations such as "Light Sight,"[12][13][14] "One Person,"[15] and "Crab," which have received recognition at international festivals.

Pourkhalaji is also active in music education. He founded Melal Music School[16][17] and has taught at Tehran University of art. He also published etudes for viola.[18]
