The American Communist Party (ACP) is a communist political party in the United States. It was founded on July 21, 2024, claiming to be a splinter group from the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The party formally adheres to Marxism–Leninism,[1] but its founders have been described as MAGA communists, which critics argue is a deranged and socially conservative worldview.[2][3] However, the founder and Chairman of the party, Haz Al-Din, argues that critics misunderstand the distinction between his strategic approach and Marxist–Leninist commitments[4]

History

[edit]

Over the course of two years, from 2022 to 2024, several individuals joined the CPUSA with the goal of remaking the party, saying they wanted to "reclaim" it from "liberals, federal agents, and Democrats." Members of this infiltration included self-described MAGA communist Jackson Hinkle and Infrared showrunner Haz Al-Din.[5][3]

During the 32nd CPUSA National Convention in June 2024, the party passed "Resolution 5," in which they rigged the vote to support Democrat Joe Biden for President.[6] Members of the entryist group who disapproved of this action split off in July 2024, declaring the ACP. The ACP claimed that the CPUSA had betrayed the ideals of democratic centralism, calling them reactionary and betrayers of the working class due to their support for the Democratic Party.[1][7][8]

The party's founders, which made up the Plenary Council, included Hinkle, Al-Din, and Christopher Helali, former leader of the Party of Communists USA (PCUSA) and a volunteer with the People's Defense Units. The ACP also said that twenty-nine clubs of the CPUSA and three clubs of the PCUSA had split and joined the ACP as well.[9][10]

The ACP joined the World Anti-Imperialist Platform (WAP) in August 2024.[11]

Ideology and platform

[edit]

The ACP describes itself as a Marxist–Leninist political party, as evidenced by both its declaration and constitution.[1] The party calls for the abolition of capitalism and the establishment of a socialist government. Both the CPUSA and the Communist Workers’ Platform USA have described the party as illegitimate.[10] Hinkle and Al-Din both self-identify as MAGA communists, and the party has been frequently described as such by media outlets.[2][12]

While the ACP's platform does call for the nationalization of large corporations, it also advocates for an end to mass immigration, a right to refuse vaccines, a ban on genetically modified food, the creation of "people's militias," and the incorporation of Canada to the United States.[8][13] Al-Din also said, on his own account, that the party opposed a supposed "decline in basic masculine virtues" and the "effeminization" of men.[3][14][15]

Election results

[edit]

As of March 2025, the ACP has only won a single local election. Christopher Helali ran for high bailiff of Orange County. Vermont following an announcement that the incumbent officeholder would not seek re-election.[12][16][17]
