A special election was held in the U.S. state of Louisiana to elect a new member for District 23 in the Louisiana Senate, representing Lafayette Parish. The primary was held on February 15, with a runoff general election scheduled on March 29, if it were to be necessary. The election filled a vacancy caused by the election of incumbent Republican Jean-Paul Coussan to the Louisiana Public Service Commission.[1] The election took place concurrently with a special election in District 14.[2] State representative Brach Myers was elected senator outright in the first round with 54.7 percent of the vote against Republican Jesse Regan, necessitating a special election to fill his seat in House District 45.
