Yutaro Yoshino (吉野 裕太郎, Yoshino Yutaro, born 18 October 1996) is a former Japanese footballer who played as a defender.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Early career and move to Brazil
[edit]Born in Honmoku, Yokohama in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan, Yoshino began his career in the YSCC Yokohama academy, where he spent six years,[3] after being invited by a neighbourhood friend.[4] In junior high school he joined a team named COJB, whose coach had formerly played in Brazil, and after graduating, Yoshino himself moved to the South American country.[4]
He first spent time with Juventus, but would struggle to stay settled as, once the season had finished, team dormitories would close and Yoshino would have nowhere to stay.[4] During this time, he would begin training with a new side in order to use their housing facilities, and he later stated in an interview that he spent time with about ten different sides during this time.[4][5] He also failed to register with a local association, and was unable to compete in official matches.[5]
Having received his high school diploma and not been able to secure a contract with a club, Yoshino briefly returned to Japan.[5] However, after speaking with former footballer Moisés, who was working as a coach at Yoshino's former club COJB, he was able to sign a professional contract with Sport Club Capixaba.[5][6][7]
Return to Japan
[edit]After a dispute with the 2017 Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão with Guarulhos, Yoshino returned to Japan at the expiration of his work visa, signing with Esperanza SC in the Kantō Soccer League.[4] After a year and a half, he was invited by former club YSCC Yokohama to play in a trial game, which coincided with a league game for Esperanza. He terminated his contract with Esperanza, allowing him to feature in the trial match, but was initially not offered a contract.[4] After discussions, he agreed to join YSCC Yokohama's second team in the Kanagawa Prefecture Adult Soccer League.[4]
After half a year with the YSCC Yokohama second team, he was promoted to the club's first team in the J3 League ahead of the 2020 season.[8] He featured sparingly in his first season with the club, playing in seven games and most notably marking Gamba Osaka U-23 forward Shoji Toyama during a match between the two sides.[9]
He renewed his contract ahead of the 2021 season, but did not feature in the entire campaign.[10] Despite this, his contract was once again renewed ahead of the 2022 season.[11] However, in February 2022 he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, keeping him out of first-team action for seven months after undergoing surgery.[12] He left the club at the end of the 2022 season, having not played professionally in two years.[13]
Post-playing career
[edit]After YSCC Yokohama signed Ecuadorian forward Carlos Arroyo, they asked Yoshino to return to the club to work as a translator in March 2023.[14][15] He'd had experience in this role the previous year, working with Gabriel Rizzi of the YSCC futsal team.[15] Despite Arroyo speaking Spanish and Yoshino speaking Portuguese, Yoshino helped him adapt to life in Japan, as well as teammates Loris Tinelli and Onye Ogochukwu.[15]
Personal life
[edit]In March 2022, Yoshino was appointed COO of Shrove Japan LLC.[16]
