It can sometimes happen that, through no fault of your own, the IP address you are using is blocked to prevent unrelated disruption. This can be the case if you are using an VPN or open proxy, or an address on the same range as a disruptive editor. Editing from a VPN is usually disallowed, but there are exceptions if you need one for security reasons or to circumvent censorship of Wikipedia.Requests for IP block exemption go through a different process, the Unblock Ticket Request System.
