Confirmed

[edit]

Reason for requesting confirmed rights: I will need the rights so I can attempt to make changes in semi-protected articles and I think my situation is a little different. After many years of use without contribution I've decided to contribute and take care of some outdated images and animations (I'm a 2D/3D Generalist). I do not plan to edit any other content, including text - unless it's necessary for some reason, like a description that has to be updated. I plan to start with English articles first, even though it's not my native language. I will just take care of the pictures, but I would have to make 10 of them, according to the rules I've read, and if the YouTube video I watched on the subject is right, I would have to do it in a quick succession (7 days according to "Wikipedia Basics" - "The Boring Voice" channel). It's not possible for me, I'm sorry. The plan is to take care of the most popular articles, but with very outdated images. They are stuck there because there are no free-to-use alternatives or nobody cares enough to update them. I would like to replace them with custom made images released for free for everyone via Wikimedia. I'm somewhat familiar with copyright laws and I understand some of the updates might not be welcome or rejected and that's okay. Images will still be available on Wikimedia in multiple sizes, formats and versions - depending on what is being done. Then I can try updating something else, but I need to be sure I'm somewhat ready to start and have a green light. I don't want to worry if what I'm working on is going to be rejected by an automated message. I also don't want to feel like I cheat and force myself to make 10 careless updates. I will get burnt out. I understand it's also a learning process and proof that someone understands the basics of coding, formatting and is not malicious (at least not yet), but I will do my best to research and test things before making any changes. Creating 3D renders takes time and I will also be limited by my tools and the resources I purchased, all with different licenses. I still have a lot to read and get familiar with, but it's okay. There is time. And I know this account looks fishy and I haven't logged in for 16 years, but the name change ticket went surprisingly well, even though I probably missed a few checkmarks. If for whatever reason this request has to be denied (and I know "the vast majority of requests here are denied" and I know about "WP:FFU"), then it's okay and I will do the next suggested thing ("Template:Edit semi-protected"). I'm happy the wall exists, but unhappy it has to. Thank you for your time. Czerniawskimc (talk) 21:28, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think I made a mistake and I was looking at those 10 changes the wrong way. They don't have to be big changes. I think I might have some expertise in certain subjects and I can contribute a little here and there, in unpopular but still outdated articles that don't require any special permissions to edit. Just look at the "3D_rendering" page, it's filled with pictures from 2005 and a lot of information is missing. I will try to contribute something there. I don't know if I can close this ticket, and I'm generally still open to getting "confirmed", but like I mentioned in my previous post - I know I have other solutions and I just realized I can just deal with it and simply follow the rules. I used the word "force" before, but nothing is forced here, nobody is forcing me to do anything and those changes don't have to be "careless", which is another stupid thing I said. Comment - @Czerniawskimc According to WP:AUTOCONFIRM, it doesn't say anything about the fact that you have to make the edits in "quick succession". Can you link that YouTube video that you talked about? Like you said, this probably will get declined. Justjourney (talk) 01:41, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the confusion. It's a wall of text, and I replied to myself before anyone else could.
It all comes down to what I wrote in my first message: "I will just take care of the pictures, but I would have to make 10 of them, according to the rules I've read, and if the YouTube video I watched on the subject is right, I would have to do it in a quick succession (7 days according to "Wikipedia Basics" - "The Boring Voice" channel)."
After getting familiar with the rules, I knew I had to make 10 edits, and I would have to replace 10 images (based on my previous "image-related contribution scenario"). I also knew there was a possibility that this 7-day time limit exists if the video I mentioned is correct. Just like you, I didn’t notice it mentioned on WP:AUTOCONFIRM, so I was skeptical. Since you asked for the link, I will go ahead and assume it's okay to post it. And I just noticed I can't post a timestamped link, so I suggest skipping to 0min25sec and here is the URL: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfR9gAMZzzM).
If this gets declined, it's alright. I just made my first edit ever a few minutes ago, in text, and it was rather bold. Whole new lead section on path tracing with respect to some of the previous content. But the images are on the way - I even got one of the top CGI artists in the world involved and he agreed to release a shaderball model for me (us) via Wikimedia Commons so I can alter it, share it and use in many images I plan to create. We were taking care of the consent declaration today. To sum it up, I will probably end up in autoconfirmed group eventually and it's not an obstacle at the moment. It's almost 7am and bright outside, so it's time to go to sleep. Thank you for your time and good night. Czerniawskimc (talk) 06:00, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Czerniawskimc: that video appears to be quite wrong. There are two requirements for autoconfirmed:
  1. Your account must be at least four days old (you meet this already as your account is years old)
  2. You must make a total of 10 edits (you're currently on 7 edits)
These two conditions are independent from each other, so you just need to hit them both. You're nearly there already. On the assumption you reply to this post again and make two {{edit semi-protected}} requests, you'll be there. It's far less onerous than you seem to think. You also mentioned WP:FFU - this is an option for you at the moment without autoconfirmed status, but that should only be used for irreplaceable non-free files. It sounds like you'll be making freely licenced files that you can upload to Wikimedia Commons without autoconfirmed status.
I'll mark this as  Not done for now as you'll likely hit autoconfirmed sooner than you think. stwalkerster (talk) 12:36, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It has been four days and I've made 13 edits and I haven't been confirmed yet? 88BeeGee88 (talk) 06:16, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Your account was created on 26 February 2025 at 21:09 (UTC). It will become autoconfirmed exactly 4 days after that time, which will be 2 March 2025 at 21:09 (UTC). Mz7 (talk) 10:28, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
