If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Divide and rule (disambiguation) → Divide and conquer (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to Divide and rule (disambiguation)) (move · discuss) – per RM at Talk:Divide and conquer 162 etc. (talk) 01:24, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Type 051B destroyer → Chinese destroyer Shenzhen (currently a redirect back to Type 051B destroyer) (move · discuss) – They were previously two different articles, Shenzhen article got merged to Type 051B since the type 051B article had more info; since it is norm for single ship class articles to be named after the ship we need to move it back Thehistorianisaac (talk) 04:16, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Infiltration/Inflow → Infiltration/inflow (currently a redirect back to Infiltration/Inflow) (move · discuss) – Not a proper noun. See also input/output, read/write. DigitalIceAge (talk) 22:36, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Israeli invasion of Lebanon (2024–present) → 2024 Israeli invasion of Lebanon (currently a redirect back to Israeli invasion of Lebanon (2024–present)) (move · discuss) – Consensus to move in RM, as well as the other one. Only one opposition, with a reasoning of "per nomination", don't know what to think about that. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 23:35, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Red brick university → Redbrick university (currently a redirect back to Red brick university) (move · discuss) – Common name is without the space Robminchin (talk) 00:12, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Bamana Empire → Ségou Empire (currently a redirect back to Bamana Empire) (move · discuss) – Consensus to move in RM. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 00:37, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
[edit]Contested technical requests
[edit]- Oscar Wang (visual artist) → Wang Lingchen (currently a redirect back to Oscar Wang (visual artist)) (move · discuss) – remove unnecessary parentheses Iuliusnanus (talk) 15:19, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- What "unnecessary parentheses" if you're suggesting a change of name to a different name other than "Oscar Wang" unDABbed (which houses a DAB page by the way)? Is this his name according to sourcing? Intrisit (talk) 21:44, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Shruti Ulfat → Shruti Panwar (currently a redirect instead to Shruti Ulfat) (move · discuss) – Panwar is her WP: COMMON NAME and her official surname after her divorce 2409:40E0:1038:4624:FCC0:DFFF:FE96:8F7C (talk) 04:40, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- In March 2023 there was some suspected vandalism around this matter that led to indefinite protection against page moves (though we could do it here). Perhaps there was confusion about her use of pre- and post-divorce surnames around that time. Has the matter since been settled? ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:31, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Nambiar → Nambiar (caste surname) (move · discuss) – The current title may cause confusion as it does not clearly differentiate between the "Nambiar" caste surname and other people with the Nambiar name. A more specific title would provide better clarity. Abhay.Nakshatras (talk) 09:33, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to say the dab should remain at the base title (in this case it's intended to be a landing page for all meanings of "Nambiar", not just the caste) - the only reason I can think of to disambiguate further would be if we had Nambiar (surname) and the argument could be made that the surname is WP:PTOPIC over the caste, but either way a discussion would probably be necessary here. ASUKITE 15:22, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- It is only used as a surname and has no other uses. You cannot find "Nambiar" used otherwise. So, what I mean is that it may be helpful for the page title to be Nambiar (caste surname). You can check this. Abhay.Nakshatras (talk) 06:42, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Nambliar is more than just a surname. It is also the name for Nambiar (Nair subcaste) & Nambiar (Ambalavasi caste), hence the reason that disambiguation is necessary. Peaceray (talk) 15:46, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

- Heysel Plateau → Heysel (move · discuss) – Following an unopposed proposal, there has been no objection to the idea that the common name for Heysel Plateau is Heysel, and that this is the primary meaning. The DAB at that location has been moved to Heysel (disambiguation), so now the request is to move Heysel Plateau to Heysel as the primary topic for that term. Klbrain (talk) 09:39, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Contesting this one. See page view stats - [1] - the neighbourhood is way behind the stadium article and the article about the Heysel disaster. So if anything is the primary topic it's not that, although it might have a claim of sorts by long-term significance. Overall a disambiguation page is best. — Amakuru (talk) 15:49, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- 2024 Hurricane Milton tornado outbreak → Hurricane Milton tornado outbreak (currently a redirect back to 2024 Hurricane Milton tornado outbreak) (move · discuss) – Unable to move for technical reasons as a redirect exists here already. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 22:27, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Contesting. WP:NCE recommends including a year for all except the most well-known of events, and most tornado outbreaks have one. — Amakuru (talk) 07:01, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- There has been only one (and 99% certain only one, given the near-certain retirement by the WMO soon) storm named Milton so WP:PRIMARYTOPIC overrides this argument. See Hurricane Beryl tornado outbreak, Hurricane Ida tornado outbreak. The year is only needed if it’s from a storm that was not retired and is still on the naming lists, i.e 2012 Hurricane Isaac tornado outbreak. Category:Tornado outbreaks spawned by tropical cyclones as well. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 18:02, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Endorsing this move; I don’t see why the year needs to be added here. EF5 18:13, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Endorsing the move later when the WMO likely retires Milton. Otherwise it can be seen as CRYSTAL. Wildfireupdateman :) (talk) 18:59, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

- L2: Empuraan → Empuraan (currently a redirect back to L2: Empuraan) (move · discuss) – No efforts made for discussion. Moved contested title without providing a valid explanation. 2409:4073:397:3D6F:A466:C5C8:62CD:9C74 (talk) 13:14, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- The history shows this is clearly controversial, and the current title is the stable one. And do you not see the hypocrisy in criticizing others for not providing an explanation while at the same time not providing an explanation yourself? * Pppery * it has begun... 19:03, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Porno → Porno (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to Porno) (move · discuss) – Porno should redirect to pornography. Similar disambiguation pages include Porn (disambiguation) and Pornography (disambiguation). AimanAbir18plus (talk) 14:17, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Wikinav does not show a primary topic here. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Porn (disambiguation), Porno (disambiguation), and Pornography (disambiguation) are all currently active DAB pages that have some redunancies and contradictions among each other. I think the three of those should be cleaned up and updated individually, and then all could go forward in more useful forms. All three could be expanded with dozens of articles that start with their respective terms. The classic Pornography (album) isn't in any of them, BTW. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 18:56, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Participation criterion → No-show paradox (currently a redirect back to Participation criterion) (move · discuss) – Undiscussed. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 17:05, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- You requested this move in the past, and then it was reverted per another request here. This is long past the point of uncontroversialness and deserves a full discussion. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:56, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Corazon Aquino → Cory Aquino (currently a redirect back to Corazon Aquino) (move · discuss) – To be uniform with her spouse Ninoy Aquino who also uses a nickname. Her personal website from her foundation also uses her nickname, instead of the first name used exclusively in formal documents. Marugamirica (talk) 11:58, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Not uncontroversial as there was a previous move discussion on precisely this. older ≠ wiser 12:15, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Herodian kingdom → Herodian Kingdom (currently a redirect back to Herodian kingdom) (move) – as per the first line in the text. JacktheBrown (talk) 01:13, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- This is not obviously uncontroversial. There was a move to lowercase a year and a half ago. The current opening sentence is the result of unexplained recent edits (two and a half months ago) by a user account that has no other edit history. A good way to fix the mismatch is to revert those two edits. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:06, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Dumpling → Dumplings (currently a redirect back to Dumpling) (move) – as per the first line in the text. JacktheBrown (talk) 20:52, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- WP:SINGULAR applies here. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:36, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- And there was a consensus declared less than three months ago not to do that in an RM discussion of January 2025. It is not necessary for the opening sentence term to exactly match the article title, and the sentence can be easily rephrased if desired. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:30, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Conifer cone → Pinecone (currently a redirect back to Conifer cone) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME. Agreed by me and someone else on talk page (sparse interest otherwise). Cannot move myself as pinecone is currently a redirect to conifer cone. Kilopylae (talk) 13:28, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Kilopylae I don't agree with this name change. The article is about cones from all coniferous trees, not just the Pinaceae family. Changing the name to just pine cone would be a change in the scope of the article. cyberdog958Talk 10:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Houthi controlled territory of Yemen → Houthi Yemen (currently a redirect back to Houthi controlled territory of Yemen) (move · discuss) – WP:CONCISE 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 21:00, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- This seems like it might be controversial. Could it imply that Houthi Yemen is not part of Yemen (like West Virginia and Virginia)? Houthis seem like a contentious topic in general. — BarrelProof (talk) 05:19, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- This depends on how you would define Yemen at the moment. Areas under Houthi control have their own government, with their own armed forces, parliament (and everything that makes up a state). They are pretty much a Quasi-state and have their own de facto borders. This article functions like Syrian Salvation Government and Syrian Interim Government 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:21, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Abo Yemen While the logic for this move seems to check out, this is a generally controversial topic and undiscussed moves would likely be challenged, so a discussion is probably a good idea. ASUKITE 16:01, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
