Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon
Program Type: Celebration Month, Community Engagement, Cultural Appreciation, Educational
Age Group: Teens , Emerging Adults , Adults , Older Adults
Wikipedia is the largest online encyclopedia in the world. With millions of articles, thousands of editors, and decades of research, it has become a trusted resource for getting first-look information in dozens of different disciplines. Yet fewer than 20% of Wikipedia's biographical articles feature women. Please join us on Monday, March 27th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to learn to edit Wikipedia pages and to help correct this disparity. All experience levels are welcome. It is highly recommended that participants create a Wikipedia account ahead of time.
Light refreshment will be provided.
The San Diego Wikimedians User Group, an affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation, will be giving a short tutorial on getting started with Wikipedia. Afterwards, we will begin editing! Computers will be available. Attendees may bring their own WiFi-enabled devices if they so desire, though in-room outlet space may be limited.

The San Diego Public Library is seeking experienced users/editors of Wikipedia to assist members of the public in editing Wikipedia.

Getting there

[edit]

San Diego Central library is located in East Village, San Diego, and west of Interstate 5. It is encouraged that attendees plan in advance as parking underneath the library is not guaranteed. All library visitors may validate parking to two (2) hours, and for past meetups, attendees were given a barcode good for up to three (3) hours. It is also northeast of the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, making it accessible to multiple San Diego Metropolitan Transit System options.
