South Australian Museum Wiki Workplan

The South Australian Museum has a long-standing commitment to public knowledge, collections access and community engagement. Through this GLAM-Wiki initiative, we aim to:

Increase visibility of the Museum’s collections, research, and stories.
Improve Wikipedia coverage of South Australian science, natural history, culture and First Nations heritage, where appropriate and with consent.
Support museum staff and volunteers to contribute to Wikimedia projects.

The project aligns with our values of accessibility, openness, and respect for continuous culture, knowledge sharing, and storytelling.

Workplan Aims

Enhance and create Wikipedia content related to our research, people, and collections.
Contribute open media to Wikimedia Commons.
Improve the representation of South Australian topics across Wikimedia platforms.
Strengthen connections with the Wikimedia community locally and nationally.

Current Focus

Uploading openly licensed images from our collections.
Creating and updating articles on collection strengths, notable figures, and natural science research.
Exploring Wikidata to enhance structured knowledge related to our taxonomy and field research.

How to Get Involved

Museum staff, volunteers, and community members are encouraged to join.
