Weightlifting at the 1983 Pan American Games was contested in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 14 to 29 as part of the ninth edition of the Pan American Games. Men's competitions were held across ten bodyweight categories, ranging from flyweight (52 kg) to super heavyweight (+110 kg), following the Olympic-style format of snatch and clean & jerk events. The tournament took place at the Estadio Olímpico Velódromo. The competition was notable for a major doping scandal: several weightlifters, including Cuba’s Daniel Núñez, were stripped of their medals after testing positive for anabolic steroids during the Games—the first Pan American Games to feature accurate steroid testing. The doping crackdown cast a shadow over the weightlifting events and marked a turning point in anti-doping enforcement in the region.
