VTV5 Southwest is the ethnic language television channel serving the Southwest region of Vietnam Television, officially broadcasting from January 1, 2016. Khmer programs are broadcast from 05:30 to 08:00 and from 13:30 to 18:00; the remaining time is broadcast Vietnamese programs.
History

[edit]- September 1, 2004: CVTV2 channel was officially launched to serve the Khmer ethnic community living in the Mekong River Delta, with a daily broadcast time of 18 hours. This channel also broadcasts general programs like CVTV1, but devotes part of its broadcast time to Khmer language programs.[1]
- June 5, 2011: Changed identity from CVTV2 to VTV Can Tho 2.
- January 1, 2016: Implementing the National Press Planning Project until 2025, VTV Can Tho 2 channel stopped broadcasting and changed to VTV5 HD Khmer channel, serving the Khmer ethnic community in Vietnam.
VTV5 Southwest
[edit]- January 1, 2016: VTV5 HD Khmer channel was launched on the basis of converting VTV Can Tho 2 channel, aiming to serve audiences in the Mekong Delta. The control center is located in Can Tho, the signal is transmitted to the headquarters of Vietnam Television in Hanoi and broadcast on transmission infrastructure to serve audiences nationwide.
- June 13, 2016: After receiving a license from the Ministry of Information and Communications, VTV5 HD Khmer channel changed its identity to VTV5 Southwest.
- January 13, 2021: VTV5 Southwest officially broadcasts in high resolution HD 1080i in the Mekong Delta region and across the country.
- October 4, 2022: The control center of VTV5 Southwest channel was transferred to the headquarters of Vietnam Television in Hanoi. Currently, the Vietnam Television Center in the Southwest region only produces and censors program content for two channels VTV5 Southwest and VTV Cần Thơ, then sends it to Hanoi for broadcasting and transmission on infrastructures serving audiences nationwide.
