Ussel (French pronunciation: [ysɛl] ⓘ; Occitan: Ussèl) is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France. Located approximately 17 km north of Cahors, the departmental capital, Ussel is a small rural community within the scenic Lot valley. The commune lies in a region known for its rolling hills and historic sites, offering a peaceful base for exploring the Lot department. The commune is close to several notable attractions, including the medieval village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (20 km), the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour (25 km), and the historic city of Cahors (17 km), known for its 14th-century Pont Valentré and Saint-Etienne Cathedral. Nearby, the village of Cabrerets (16 km) offers access to the Grotte du Pech Merle, a cave with prehistoric art. Local markets in Catus (14 km) and Cahors provide opportunities to experience regional culture.
