Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Gadaria people. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 15:55, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Pal (surname). Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 14:20, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of discretionary sanctions

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in South Asian social groups. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. Bishonen | tålk 09:06, 24 July 2025 (UTC).[reply]

  • Hi, Stoopystop. Since here's so much for you to read above, I want to draw your attention particularly to the restriction "you must have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to ... social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal". This applies very much to you, since you have currently only 64 edits. That means you're not allowed to edit about social groups or castes. The restriction is new, so I don't blame you for editing about castes before, but you must not continue to do so. Bishonen | tålk 09:15, 24 July 2025 (UTC).[reply]
Sure, as a responsibe wikipedian i will adhere to the policy, but i am not able to find the explicit mention of 500 edits point in the link you have attached. Stoopystop (talk) 09:25, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, right. No, my link is to the decision by the Arbitration Committee; you'd have to look up the Extended confirmed restriction itself to see the 500 edits thing. But don't bother; you can see it right above, in my big blue alert, which is in itself a formal message from the Committee. Bishonen | tålk 10:14, 24 July 2025 (UTC).[reply]
