Remote work laws

[edit]

Chag Sameach! I hope all is well with you. Dutch law states that "Working from home is not a legal right. However, according to the Flexible Working Act...employees may submit a written request to work (partly) from home" and that employers "must have a good reason for refusing such a request." According to the World Economic Forum, a similar law was drafted in Germany. Do you know what became of it? Is this now codified under German law? Thank you. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 18:59, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Chag sameach @Bohemian Baltimore, "Mobilearbeit" does not have a concrete legal definition or regulation for the most part still. In the Works Constitution Act, Section 87, Paragraph 1. Sentence 14 does newly refer to principles of mobile work being regulatable in a works agreement. So if the employer refuses mobile work for anyone, then the only possibility would be if it was guaranteed in individual labor contractors, but there's no laws mandating this. This is not to be confused with "telework" which is travelling work, for example sales-people or others who travel for work. There, it's regulated within Telearbeitsgesetz. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 19:58, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Shushugah Thank you for the clarification. The remote work article has a brief "Legal aspects" section that doesn't really give global coverage of laws and regulations related to remote work. I was trying to think of a name for a separate article. Remote work laws? Remote work legislation? Remote work regulations? Maybe Legal aspects of remote work? I'm not quite sure yet. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 02:12, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Legal aspects of remote work is my favorite name as the other article titles would indicate a simple list. But all are reasonable to have as redirects either way. I'd be happy to give some of them a gloss over. I think tax residency/evasion, digital nomadism, health and safety are all legal considerations on top of explicit remote work legislation. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 02:24, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Theanthonymovement (14:40, 21 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi Shushugah,

I hope you are well! And appreciate the mentorship in publishing new articles on Wikipedia. I just wanted to get some of your thoughts on this article draft that's been rejected:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Homebase_(software)

It mentions that it appears more of an advertisement but I clearly cited and sticked to the facts (and also referenced other similar articles like this). Just wanted to see what specific sections/entries I can improve on so that it goes through approval more seamlessly.

Really appreciate your time! --Theanthonymovement (talk) 14:40, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Theanthonymovement hello, every claim is attributed to a source, the quality of the sources are not very high. Several of the sources are simply the website or blog posts close to the company. The sections about capital funding, number of customers are not interesting to most people, except the company itself. I would recommend reading WP:NPRODUCT and WP:PROMO and challenge you to show in future edit attempts, what makes this article notable and extensively covered in WP:secondary sourcing. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 02:22, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello,

I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:

  • Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
  • Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
  • Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List

Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents

Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:

  • The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
  • Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces

If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.

We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Question from JamesEMonroe (22:32, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

Hey, I want to be in good faith. There's this article; Gun control, and it has soo many sources that I dont even know what to do with or how to fix the article. It feels too bulky but management didn't put up a box for it. I also would had to remove all of there hard work and so many sources, or at least summarize and condense a lot of them, it something I would be bad about and I might get nicked for unconstructive. Do you have any advice? you can look at the article yourself. Regardless of the article, I would want to know what to do for future reference.

Also with that article I'm kind of stuck. It already has a lot of sources and information on studies, so I cant add new countries to it. The sources are the bulk of the paper and there's mostly research for one-side, and it would be insanity to match what is on the supportive with the already huge amount of studies. I cant add information about specify laws or gun control because it will conflict with the purpose of gun laws of nations article where it goes into detail about what is enacted. talking about the controversy would surely get someone upset. Trying to format it into a good article would talk removing a lot of person work too. so basically there's nothing I can do. I'm also new to it so idk the consensuses, I checked the achieves and learned of things not to do but its probably not everything too. (unrelated to this article but also what do you do for editing if the admins say no consensus and locked the talk thread saying it derailed enough and ran its course)

I'm curious of your thoughts --JamesEMonroe (talk) 22:32, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, what's the benefit of contributing to the article correction --Rishab369 (talk) 04:27, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rishab369 everyone has a different motivation. For me, it's a mix of seeing topics I am interested in reflect the breadth and precision I would expect from an encyclopedia. Hello I am trying to attach a notable person with a Wikipedia page to Darlington, SC Notable People and my addition does not seem to be acceptable. --CaidKirven (talk) 13:59, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@CaidKirven welcome to Wikipedia. Editors sometimes disagree without understanding the policies. The relevant policy is at WP:NLIST and typically includes existing articles. Whether a subject is notable for an article would depend on WP:GNG. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:21, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Will it be reviewed again? My information is solid and correct. James Elliott Williams was born in Rock Hill, SC, but moved to Darlington when he was four months old and was then raised in Darlington through high school graduation. CaidKirven (talk) 21:17, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the edit history and cannot see where you previously attempted to add it, but I would agree with you it is notable. Question from Adygefacts on Mohy Quandour (12:41, 17 June 2025)

[edit]

Saem, The “fact” that Aleem Quandour was an adopted son was proven without a doubt factually incorrect by Jordanian courts. This is libel by an estranged family member who seeks financial gain only- please correct the facts . --Adygefacts (talk) 12:41, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RPMERC (15:48, 26 June 2025)

[edit]

Hello, The subject of this website, the dates of rulers dated by the Ganga Era was covered by new research by myself. This is "The Epoch Date of the Ganga Era", ZDMG 171 (2021) 425-458. I found that the Ganga Era began in the year 607, and not in the year 498, as had been previously assumed. This means that all the dates of rulers given in your website must be changed. Question from Tyow1 (21:53, 28 June 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I'm wanting to update the counts of the word length distribution in the Collins Scrabble Words page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collins_Scrabble_Words. But I can only find sources for the counts up to 9. For the rest, I could easily compute it myself, but I have a vague understanding that that wouldn't be the proper route for Wikipedia. Any ideas? --Tyow1 (talk) 21:53, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Mobi Mech (11:58, 29 June 2025)

[edit]

Hello 👋 How do i create an article --Mobi Mech (talk) 11:58, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mobi Mech Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun! I am not! Most Wikipedia editors are quite private about their lives which is a good default. I choose to be quite public with my real life identity. Up to you to ascertain whether I am AI or not. Hello! I had put together an article in my user sandbox page and wanted to publish it. I got an automated filter that did not let it get published. It is for a chair of a law firm which I am working in partnership with, however, the information is all direct and factual in my opinion. Please let me know how I can proceed. --Ggevaart1 (talk) 15:35, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
