ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:41, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nightmares26. Thank you for your work on 1351 in France. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

It does seem to have been a sufficiently interesting year to warrant a page. I don't think that the link to date (particularly not the links to months) are consistent with the usual style for these articles, as you can by scanning the other years of the 14th century. However, the particular policy that's relevant escapes me ...

@Klbrain: G'day I added the links to the dates because I was using the 16th century articles as a base in which the style used for many is that of having the date linked. Nightmares26 (talk) 15:57, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like WP:DATELINK generally discourages such links, however does note that in intrinsically chronological articles (1789, January, and 1940s), links to specific month-and-day, month-and year, or year articles are not discouraged. So, as this is a chronological list, it would be churlish of me to object! Klbrain (talk) 16:24, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

A tag has been placed on Category:Islamic terrorist incidents in 2025 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 00:35, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nightmares26. Thank you for your work on Kasanga massacre. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Thanks for writing this clear article, as part of the series on the Kivu conflict. It is integrated into the series through the template. There is a lot of backgound/context, but this seems to be helpful for readers. There are sufficient sources for now, altohugh it will be interesting to see if there is sustained coverage. That seems likely given the number of people killed.
