Administrators' newsletter – April 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • There is an ongoing request for comment to streamline the source deprecation and blacklisting process.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • Following the banning of an editor by the WMF last year, the Arbitration Committee resolved to hold a Arbcom RfC regarding on-wiki harassment. A draft RfC has been posted at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Anti-harassment RfC (Draft) and not open to comments from the community yet. Interested editors can comment on the RfC itself on its talk page.

Miscellaneous

  • The WMF has begun a pilot report of the pages most visited through various social media platforms to help with anti-vandalism and anti-disinformation efforts. The report is updated daily and will be available through the end of May.

Typo

He Minorax. Thank you for moving International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. However, you made a mistake while doing so. You moved the page to International Classification of Disease, singular. The correct name is International Classification of Diseases, plural. In fairness, this is not entirely your fault, because User:Buidhe originally made the typo when she placed the technical request. I have filed a new one, so this will be fixed soon. I've also notified Buidhe. Have a nice day, Manifestation (talk) 17:50, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

@Buidhe and Manifestation: Hi, I’ve corrected the name. Sorry. Minorax (talk) 21:59, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
No problem! Thanks, Manifestation (talk) 16:39, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Creation of new section

Hi Minorax, thanks for helping me out. Actually I wanted to add a new section in the page of Maratha navy. I was trying to create a new section. Which describes Maratha navy under Sambhaji from the years 1680-1689. Pls tell me how can I add the new section in the said page. Charvak157 (talk) 05:43, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

@Charvak157: Hi, you can add == section name ==. Minorax (talk) 05:46, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

The title of my new section will be (Maratha Navy under Sambhaji)

should I write it like

Maratha Navy under Sambhaji

Where should I create the new section in visual editing or source editing? Charvak157 (talk) 05:49, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

@Charvak157: It's up to you on where you want to add it to as long it has references. I would suggest source editing as it would be easier. Minorax (talk) 05:51, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Minorax, for telling me how to add a section. I added the section Maratha Navy under Sambhaji in the given article along with references Charvak157 (talk) 11:13, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

This was a very silly undiscussed move, in clear breach of WP:THE. Do you really think the title page says "The Wicked Bible"??? If you do, you shouldn't be doing moves. Johnbod (talk) 16:12, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

@Johnbod: Hello. I’ll revert the move in just a bit. About the second part, no I don’t. It’s my mistake and I shall apologise. Sorry. Minorax (talk) 16:26, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Uncle Sam billboard: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Nyook 09:41, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

@Nyook: My POV is that if someone is here to vandalise, the amount of tags you slap on their talk page won't matter. --Minorax (talk) 11:32, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: User:AbhinavAshish1503

Hello Minorax. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:AbhinavAshish1503, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The page was improperly moved to the userspace of a nonexistent user, so the correct action was to move it back, not to delete it. Thank you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:14, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
