Redacted contribution

[edit]

Hi, You redacted my article due to it not being in an encyclopedia style. I have rewritten it in a more appropriate style. I hope it is okay with you to republish the article. Kind regards Ron Binstead Touchscreen1 Touchscreen1 (talk) 21:58, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Harry, I hope that you're well. I think that I might have now addressed the comments you kindly left in this FAC. Please let me know though if the article needs more work! Regards, Nick-D (talk) 02:56, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
For bringing an end to the trolling and sockpuppetry garbage here. Thank you for all that you do. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:03, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HJ Mitchell, could you please protect the TP so that IP vandals are not able to post? One IP is currently targeting me. Also, the very page needs to protection (admin-only) for some time, because there are ongoing attempt to POV push cherrypicked material. Best. — Sadko (words are wind) 11:22, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an IP vandal and stop attacking me like that, I'm just saying that you're blocked from editing Eastern Europe [[1]] and you're doing vandalism again and deleting sources on Wikipedia.[[2]]192.71.144.210 (talk) 11:30, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As seen above, not only is this IP talking smack, introducing old and incorrect information, they are stalking as well. — Sadko (words are wind) 11:36, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the incorrect information that you weren't blocked from editing Eastern Europe, so you were accidentally unblocked by an administrator who didn't know that a few months ago, so you're doing vandalism again. I just looked at your edits and saw that you were blocked for 2-3 years from editing Eastern Europe.192.71.144.210 (talk) 11:42, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HJ Mitchell. Since you seem fairly active at WP:UAA and are also an oversighter, I thought I ask you about this before to see whether it's worth discussing at UAA. As you can see on this user's user talk page, I've mentioned the potential issues with their username a couple of months ago, but they never responded. They, however, showed up again earlier today to edit Christian Manon, which is why it showed up in my watchlist. If there's nothing to worry about here, I'll remove the page from my watchlist and leave things be, except for the outstanding file issues. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:32, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly My personal opinion is that if they're not doing anything disruptive, they're probably best left alone but if you want more input, there's WP:RFC/N. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:47, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking a look at this. I concur with your assessment that that user hasn't (at least so far) done anything that's really would be considered disruptive, which is the main reason why I didn't start a UAA discussion about them. I guess action can always be taken if they someday do start causing problems. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:10, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Harry!

[edit]

Would you be so kind to help my new friend Feeglgeef? They could be a good new vandalfighter but they respond badly to criticism and they need more guidance, ideally from an expert vandalfighter such as yourself. We butted heads a bit so they are unlikely to listen to my advice. Thanks, Polygnotus (talk) 12:40, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Polygnotus What kind of guidance did you have in mind? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:45, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I pointed out some imperfect contribs on their talk, but I noticed that there are more. And based on our conversation I worried that they might not fully grok and acknowledge the problems. Because we butted heads I am not really in the position to help them. But you, as a neutral party and as someone who has a lot of experience dealing with vandalism could help them see that not all unexplained content removals should be immediately reverted without investigation. And that User talk:2409:4066:D48:9DEC:2809:B08E:E672:AED2 was not the best way to deal with things. And that it is wise to slow down and carefully check what you are doing. We can always use more vandalfighters, so it is important to not scare them off, while also explaining that not everything is perfect yet and that it is important to listen to feedback. I am not sure how they will respond to my message. Polygnotus (talk) 20:56, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you jump in please. They are making up their own rules. Polygnotus (talk) 06:34, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong block reason for User:SunshineSupport

[edit]

Hello! I saw you blocked User:SunshineSupport with the uw-ublock-wellknown template, but that template doesn't make sense. You might have meant to use uw-spamublock or uw-softer-block? Helpful Raccoon (talk) 20:41, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Helpful Raccoon thanks. Twinkle mis-click (weelknown is the next row down from causeblock). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:45, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting CheckUser help

[edit]

Hi, HJ Mitchell, and hope you're well. May I kindly ask you please take a look at the accounts listed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/清风与明月 when you can? I ordinarily would just wait (as SPI is backlogged and I opened the case only days ago), but knowing if the listed users are related or not would lend some clarity on their (many, long) comments on an active talk page discussion. Thank you, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 14:56, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

I appreciate you protecting my talk page to quell the vandalism. In the past, I generally disliked the idea of my talk page being protected, given that I like new and IP users being able to contact me if they have issues with my edits, but this vandalism clearly wouldn't go away without administrative action. Once again, thank you for all you do here. JeffSpaceman (talk) 16:04, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JeffSpaceman You're welcome, and I've felt the same way with my talk page in the past. A short-term protection seems to strike the balance. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:09, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking an IP range

[edit]

Hello. I would like to ask you to consider blocking 41.150.0.0/16 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · block user · block log). The range was active recently, and a very large amount of vandalism was (persistently) coming from it. I tried to report it to AIV, but I was told to report it to ANI. My ANI report got archived without any response. That is why I chose to reach out to an individual admin. If you think the range should be blocked, please do so, and if not, I will be glad for an explanation. Many thanks. Janhrach (talk) 17:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Janhrach Normally I'd be reluctant with a range as big as a /16 but almost all edits coming from that range are vandalism so I've blocked it for six months. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:37, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Janhrach (talk) 17:39, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

[edit]

There's an unblock request at User talk:SilverBullet X, for a block you imposed. I am in favour of lifting the block, but perhaps you can have a look at it and see what you think. The block was, in my opinion 100% right, but the editor has done about as good a job as I have ever seen of showing an acceptance that what he did was wrong and indicating that he won't do the same again. Of course the fact that he says so doesn't prove that he won't, but I can't see any reason for not giving him a chance to prove that he means it (or show that he doesn't, and needs to be reblocked). Any thoughts? JBW (talk) 21:28, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
