Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pythagorean triple, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lattice. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Collatz number for Mersenne prime a-48

[edit]

I finished calculating the Collatz number for the Mersenne prime a-48 (257885161-1). The value is 779044992. It took only 6039 minutes to verify. To make sure my calculation was correct, I did the first 30 Mersenne and they all matched to the list on OEIS.

I can send you the code if you want to validate it before updating the OEIS entry. Best regards. ReallyNiceGuy 16:53, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

==Collatz steps for Mersenne Primes above a-45==
Above a-45, the ranking of Mersenne primes is provisional. So, the formal sequence of Mersenne primes is only verifiable up to a-45. Consequently, the formal sequence of Collatz steps for Mersenne primes is only verifiable up to s(a-45).
The comment section of OEIS A181777 has all 6 unranked steps for a-46 to a-51 and your value for a-48 is confirmed.
Apologies for a tardy reply but have been away visiting friends. Frank M. Jackson (talk) 17:12, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Practical Numbers

[edit]

I have a question about your new paragraph about practical numbers and their primitives. For example, the practical number n = 2^2 * 3^2 * 17 has two primitive practical numbers that divide it and that have the same set of prime factors, namely 2^2 * 3 * 17 and 2 * 3^2 * 17. Which of those two is the primitive progenitor of n? Andreas Weingartner (talk) 20:30, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The algorithm I describe at the end of my new paragraph about practical numbers and their primitives for finding the primitive progenitor would find the primitive progenitor closest to the practical in question such that the quotient of the practical divided by the primitive has the same radical as the primitive. In your example the algorithm would choose 2 * 3^2 * 17. However, I do see the problems and inconsistencies that the your example identifies because it shows that two primitive practical numbers have the same radical. I will remove my new paragraph and rethink. Frank M. Jackson (talk) 01:31, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Conway triangle notation has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

MathWorld is notorious for neologisms, and this is one. MathWorld in turn sources this notation only to an unpublished book manuscript that uses this notation only in the formulation of a single formula.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:53, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
