re: Help Desk: My edits appear when logged in but not when logged out
Hello Daylen,
Thanks for your interest. Purging the server cache didn't seem to change anything, but when I looked at the page in question today (12 hours later) it came through with my edits intact. So I'm thinking that maybe just being patient and waiting to see changes is the best approach. Nobosses (talk) 19:42, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
I took the picture and I uploaded it. How should it be credited? I used my name on the photo credit, and it was uploaded using my account. How else could I do it?
The team is currently working on three main goals, which we expect to complete this summer or in September:
Graduate New Filters for Edit Review core features out of beta:
The core New Filters features slated to become standard parts of Recent Changes are the ones that have been out in beta for a while and fully road-tested by the community.
These include the new filtering interface, the machine-learning filter groups “User Intent Predictions” and “Quality Predictions,” the highlighting tools, the ability to save your filter settings for later use, and the new filter groups: “Watchlisted pages,” “Last revision” and "User registration and experience."
We expect to release those features by default in September. A more precise message will be sent to communities. If you have questions about it, you can write a message on Mediawiki.org, in any language.
Extend the New Filters to Watchlist: The Watchlists of very active editors can include thousands of pages. To help these busy folks keep up with their work, we’re adding the New Filters UX and tools to Watchlist. The Watchlist and Recent Changes pages are similar, but there is some work involved in adapting the tools to their new setting. That work should be ready some time in late summer or early fall. Stay tuned for an announcement!
Continuing work on “Integrated Filters”:
While the New Filters for Edit Review beta brought probably 70% of the old-style Recent Changes features into the new user interface, it left some behind—like the Tag and Namespace filters and the controls for the number of days searched and number of results presented. As the name is meant to suggest, “Integrated filters” integrates those old-style tools into the new UI.
It also adds some new tools users have asked for, such as:
“Live updates” which provides a near real-time automatic refresh of the Recent Changes page.
User filters, which let you define searches that include or exclude edits by particular users.
We will put the community-defined related links that cluster at the top of most Recent Changes pages into a collapsible panel, in order to clarify the Recent Changes page.
We should note that it’s not certain these last two additions will make the cut for inclusion this year. If you want a make the case for either one, we want to hear from you.
It is now possible to display the number of unread notifications in the browser title bar, using a gadget. [6]
Future changes
It will be possible to restrict who can send you notifications on a wiki. This new feature will accessible in your preferences, in the Notifications tab, on Wednesday, July 26. [7]
Thanks for uploading File:Boxed.com logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
A tag has been placed on File:Emerging Crowd logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Compose.io logo.png
Thank you for uploading File:Compose.io logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
I'd like to invite you to join the Investment WikiProject. There are a lot of Investment related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help get this project off the ground and a few Investment pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks!
@Amortias: is wrong on both counts. The way to "change a category name" is to go through either WP:Categories for discussion for anything vaguely controversial, or WP:Categories for discussion/Speedy for "easy" things like this where the categories just need fixing to reflect the corporate name change. Yes, a bot will then make any necessary changes, but you have to go through the procedure. I've now made the request, but just in general, if you find yourself creating a red link to a category as you did here, then there will be a better way to do what you're trying to achieve (per WP:REDNOT).Le Deluge (talk) 10:42, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.
Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.
Hello Daylen. Your account has been granted the "filemover" user right, either following a request for it or due to a clear need for the ability to move files. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:File mover for more information on this user right and under what circumstances it is okay to move files. When you move a file please remember to update any links to the new name as well! If you do not want the file mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Hi Daylen. Based on your comment at User talk:Zulkifl Agha I thought I should just clear something up: contributors do own the copyright to text they add to Wikipedia. The CC-BY-SA licence simply means that they license their work to be reused; it doesn't negate their ownership of the copyright (indeed, if they don't own the copyright, they can't legally apply the licence). Releasing a work into the public domain generally voids copyright, but releasing under a Creative Commons licence does not. All the best, Yunshui雲水 09:47, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Oh, and a quick way to tell whether or not a user is blocked is to look at the top of their Contributions page (accessible from the left hand menu when yo're looking at a user page or user talkpage) - a big red message shows up if they're blocked. Or you can check the block log. Yunshui雲水09:50, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
I looked under Special:UserRights and Special:Log (I searched the user name as the performer instead of the target by accident). Sorry about the license confusion, I did a super bad job of explaining it. Thanks for the proper definition. Have a nice day! Daylen (talk) 14:24, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Global Collaboration team formed in July by merging the Language and Collaboration teams of the Wikimedia Foundation. The team is part of the Contributors department.
The newsletter now includes updates about Content translation. The Global Collaboration team now have an extended report (in English), with more information and data about the different projects we take care of.
Due to vacations and Wikimania, no newsletter has been written in August.
Major changes, with possibly an important impact on the wikis, are now marked with the star icon in the newsletter. Let us know if you like it.
Filters for Recent Changes will be deployed by default on all wikis. [8]
Some features for Recent Changes remain on Beta. See the list.
The initial deployment was scheduled for September 26. It has been postponed after October 3 for performance issues. [9]
The filters for Watchlists, as a Beta feature, have been deployed as a Beta feature on Sept. 19. [10]
"User registration" and "experience level" groups have been unified. It is now possible to select only actions from logged-out users or from logged-in users. [11]
Delete action on the list of translations is now more reachable. Now it's possible to open it on click, and easier as well, because active area is bigger. [12]
Content Translation language selector is restyled to be more compact. [13]
Future changes
The translation editor of Content Translation will be replaced by the visual editor. Work is ongoing. [14]
Hi! I noticed you signed up for The 10,000 Challenge of WikiProject Canada but hadn't submitted any articles. There's no deadline, but the challenge is coming up to its first anniversary so this could be a good time to submit any Canada-related articles you've created or improved since November 2016. Please try to ensure that all entries are sourced with formatted citations and no unsourced claims.
You can use this link for convenience to submit entries. Thank-you, and please spread the word to those you know who might be interested in joining this effort to improve the quality of Canada-related articles. – Reidgreg (talk) 19:38, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Body Labs, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New York (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I am having trouble verifying Microsoft Edge having come to Android or iOS. The link given in the The Verge article (www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/microsoft-edge-mobile) is not working for me. Please double-check and report back, if it isn't much trouble. Microsoft has a long history of aborting projects, you know.
Hi Codename Lisa The iOS app (I put iPhone as the app does not yet support iPads) is live in beta; however, you have to be a skip ahead Windows Insider, due to Apple's TestPilot program limitations. The link above will only work if you are signed up for the program. After the beta is complete (later this year), the app will be launched in the App Store. According to Microsoft, the Android app is undergoing final testing, and will be released as beta software to the Google Play Store very soon. If you would prefer to wait until the apps are out of beta, that is fine with me. Here is a video of the iOS app - https://twitter.com/tomwarren/status/915993180969029632. Cheers, Daylen (talk) 15:10, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
I see.
Well, the truth is, the link returns a 404 to me, but it is a known fact that Microsoft's website is heavily customized to take the visitor's region and user agent into account. Hence, if it works for you, then it is settled: We add it to the article.
Nevertheless, it isn't customary to add the beta operating system to the infobox. I have a WP:CRYSTAL concern there. But I am offering out-of-infobox mention as a compromise. What do you say?

Hi Daylen. We collaborated a bit on the Wink (platform) Wikipedia page with @FeldBum: a while back. I am working on another tech article (IT Security) where I'd like to contribute with a COI, requiring an impartial crowd-sourced editor review my work. I was wondering if you (or FeldBum if he gets this) were willing to chip in here, where I have shared a potential draft that would help rebalance and fill-out the article. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Simplii Financial until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. -- HighKing++ 13:40, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Bri: Just wondering why you left this note on my talk page. If you are referring to the initial draft posted on Talk:Parq Vancouver, I told the company that it was overly promotional and would not be accepted; however, the asked me to get another editor to take a look at it. Filters for Watchlists are still on Beta. Please try them and give feedback before we release it for all users!
Shortcuts to filter Namespaces and Tags are now more visible. [19]
Discovery of the search bar has been improved. [20]
If the Recent Changes page or the Watchlist fails to load or is time-outed, a message is now displayed. [21][22]
The bookmark icon for creating a "Saved filter" is now grayed when it is not possible to save. Before it was not visible. Bookmarking is unavailable when, for example, the current filter set is already saved. [23]
Future changes
Live updates on Recent changes will be moved out of beta and into the standard feature set by the end of the year. [24]
Extension:Translate filters for RecentChanges are going to be integrated to the new filters. [25]
Automatic edit summaries will be filtered as tags. [26]
List items (suggested items and in-progress/published translations) layout restyled to prevent overflows on small screen sizes.
Search results for new translation dialog are now embedded, instead of being displayed in floating menu. Search results remain displayed when tabbed out and can be closed using ESC key.
Missing pages are no longer shown when there is no match for search query. Message informing that there are no results is displayed instead.
Embedded search results enabled to provide users with more translation opportunities. Articles user recently edited (in currently selected source language wiki) are surfaced when there is no input in search bar, with additional info if article is missing in user's currently selected target language.
Long suggestion descriptions are limited to three lines, and the rest is truncated, which is indicated by ellipsis.
Chart data representing user translation statistics in now showing all the months since user's first published translation. Months that went without translation are now displayed in chart as well.
A loading indicator is shown while suggestions are loading.
Button to discard dialog is now shown through the whole process of selecting article to translate.
Some work is ongoing to store Structured Discussions contents from HTML to wikitext. That change will allow some specific templates and magic words to work properly on Structured Discussions. [28]
Some tests are conducted in order to prepare the rewriting of Structured Discussions' interface. That rewriting will have no visible impact on users but it will ease future changes.

Very touch and go in terms of notability hence I've added a tag accordingly. Are there any extra citations you can add about this organisation showing it's notable? I'm concerned since the article may get deleted otherwise. If so just edit the article and add citations using the cite tool. If you've got any questions just let me know.

Hello, Daylen. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

The filters are now deployed as a default feature on all wikis on RecentChanges and RecentChangesLinked pages.
The filters are still available as a Beta feature on all wikis on Watchlists. Please try them!
LiveUpdates have been deployed as a default feature for all wikis.
On wikis using Extension:Translate, translated messages can now be filtered. System messages can be filtered as well, on all wikis. [30]
"View new changes since $1" link is now more prominent, to invite users to use that native feature to update the list of results. [31]
Pagination and time period selectors are now combined and located on the right on left-to-right wikis. [32]
When a user wanted to click outside of the filter menu to close it, it was possible to click on "revert" link by accident. It is not possible anymore. [33]
It is now possible to filter the following events using the Tags menu: Making a page a redirect, Changing redirect target, Changing an existing redirect into a non-redirect, Blanking of the page, Removing more than 90% of a page content, Rolling back an edit. [34]
Some design improvements have been done to Related Changes page to integrate the new filters. [35]
"Save current filter settings" menu and legend overlapped the results. This is now fixed. [36]
Some small design improvements have been done. [37]
Now Content Translation prevents source and target language to be set to same language. [38]
The dialog for selecting article to translate is standardized. It introduces a new component that is used for the selected page on both the "New translation" dialog and the "Suggested pages" list. [39]
More space is given to the language filter, to increase responsiveness and show more language names without truncation. [40]
While searching for a new page to translate, duplicates are not shown anymore for user search input. [41]
Various PHP warnings and JavaScript errors have been fixed. [42][43]

A tag has been placed on File:Carrot Rewards iOS app screenshot.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from Screenshot. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. reddogsix (talk) 23:32, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
