Artificial intelligence and Women in Red
[edit]First of all, Rosie, thanks for taking the time and trouble to keep us informed about AI initiatives in relation to Wikipedia and for suggesting we should put together an essay specifically for contributors to WiR. I must say I was rather surprised at the number of strong reactions against use of AI for creating women's biographies. It reminded me of the violent reactions by the print.setters in Fleet Street when in was suggested computerized editing systems could probably be of assistance. Introduction of new technologies requires a careful examination of the advantages and disadvantages of possible applications rather than simple yes or no assertions.
Unfortunately the amount of time I am able to spend on Wikipedia is now increasingly limited but in reviewing new members, I recently came across a Swiss women who has successfully applied AI to Swiss articles on women and was keen to collaborate with the English version too. In addition to the OKA initiative on AI-based translation, I believe other research groups such as those in Barcelona have been looking at AI as a tool in connection with increasing coverage of women. If I find the time, I'll try to look into this further and provide further details.
In the meantime, it might be useful to draw up a draft list of guidelines in connection with the assistance AI can give to the creation or improvement of articles about women. Advice could also be given on the dangers of using output created by AI tools without careful vetting and further human-based research, etc.
I thought it would be more suitable to bring these points up here rather than prolonging the one-sided discussion on the WiR talk page. In any case, thanks very much for taking an interest in this important topic and helping us to address it in the context of Women in Red.--Ipigott (talk) 09:13, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ipigott, agree with all that you've said here and there. Next week, I'll attend every wiki+AI session at Wikimania Nairobi that I possibly can. Let's see if there are any learnings that I can share at that time. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:26, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Question from Hawthornele (17:51, 2 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Rosie. I seem to have accidentally added the Reference list into a section of the article, but cannot see how to remove it. It also appears as it should, at the end. Can you help please? Bentinho Massaro's page. Most grateful! --Hawthornele (talk) 17:51, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Hawthornele and thanks for editing Wikipedia. It appears that with your second edit of Bentinho Massaro, you inadvertently added
<references />
at the end of the Career section. I've removed it. It's fine now. And no worries! Happy editing. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:17, 2 August 2025 (UTC)- Thanks for helping people edit Wikipedia! :-) Hawthornele (talk) 23:12, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
