Questions on Gianni Benvenuti

[edit]

@B33net - thanks for your review of the DYK for Gianni Benvenuti. I'd appreciate you taking a look at the article again. I've made some edits to make the language more neutral. If there is any further guidance that you can give as well, I'd be thankful.

Background; The article creation was inspired by a recent conversation with childhood friends who were reminiscing about reading books that Benvenuti had illustrated. That resulted in the group looking for other books and work that he'd done. Seems that in his years in the US, he also designed figurines and coins for The Franklin Mint (FM) (in good company, as Norman Rockwell did some work for the FM.) I was only able to find his FM work for sale on auction sites such as eBay. His painting, original illustrations, and such can be found on various European auction sites, some going for over 10K EUR. (See artsy.net)

Any help would be appreciated, — ERcheck (talk) 21:42, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve replied to the DYK nomination with more suggestions! 🐝 B33net 🐝 21:51, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your second look. I've done a lot of searching for additional sources, but haven't found any that I consider "reliable". With the references as is, do you think it cannot make the DYK page?
ERcheck (talk) 23:27, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Under the DYK guidelines' "External policy compliance": The article must be based on reliable sources, which must be cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
My opinion is that if there really is any references backing up the primary sources in that article then according to the DYK guidelines it would be acceptable. Since you tried finding other sources and failed, I would say that this article may not be acceptable for a DYK. Thanks for your contributions. 🐝 B33net 🐝 23:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I double checked the references. Most all of the info in InCollect is in the Qarts magazine, so I tagged with that reference everywhere that it applied. I think it makes the sourcing stronger. Do you consider the Q Arts magazine as a reliable source? — ERcheck (talk) 01:53, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked the two new references. www.danaellyn.com is not a reliable source as it is a personal website for Dana Ellyn, which means it falls under self-published sources. The only way this can be accepted is if the material is about the author themselves and does not make extraordinary claims. The InCollect link would generally not be considered a highly reliable source for factual claims, but since it contains a written biography, it could be considered reliable. That goes with both websites as well. If you can find other sources, that would be helpful to the DYK nomination, but if there is no more, the nomination can end, or find other sources. Additionally, certain exceptions can be made about these primary sources, such as if it contains straightforward, non-controversial facts, descriptive content, and the possibility when no other secondary source exists. 🐝 B33net 🐝 02:09, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did one more deep dive, trying to find international references; and found a few - including, from Singapore National Library, Museum of Comics and Communication, and Bibliothèque François Mitterrand (French national library). — ERcheck (talk) 21:54, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll pass it. You’ve searched for references painstakingly, and these primary sources seem to be the only sources that can be used, which follows DYK and Wikipedia guidelines. Although, I suggest looking into the Medium reference just because it is unanimously considered unreliable. Thanks for your work! 🐝 B33net 🐝 22:39, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated. Seems that the Medium.com platform is what is being used by the Singapore National Library. Do you recommend that I completely delete it as a reference? — ERcheck (talk) 01:08, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
