I am very sorry for your experience – indeed, this one particular user does engage in below-the-belt practices and wikipedia enforcement mechanisms have been powerless to stop him so far. As R.e.b told you, from a practical point of view, it is often easier and more constructive to disgengage and keep editing other articles, both for you and for others. I do hope that you'll find a way to return to wikipedia after a rest and I wish you many more productive edits and much satisfaction with your good work. I think several people batted an eye, furrowed a brow, and even harrumphed. But certainly Wikipedia isn't perfect. There are lots of other articles and editors after all. Take care.
