User:Zen3500/List of noble families in Belgium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list provides an overview of the approx. 1,200 families that form part of the present-day Belgian nobility.

To become part of the Belgian nobility, each of these families received a concession, recognition or admission of hereditary nobility from the King of the Belgians under Article 113 of the Constitution and, as a result, officially and legally became part of the Belgian nobility. These titles of nobility are granted without any privileges being attached but are recorded in the National Register. The families included on the lists of nobles drawn up between 1815 and 1830, during the reign of King William I of the Netherlands, were exempted from being re-recognised or re-admitted to the heriditary nobility upon the establishment of the independent Kingdom of Belgium in 1831.

Not included in this list are families who have never received letters patent issued by the King of the Belgians, families ennobled under the ancien régime but whose title of nobility has never been recognised by the King of the Belgians and Belgian naturalised families who have received a title of nobility in their country of origin but have never been admitted to the nobility by the King of the Belgians. At the same time, the families of people who have received a personal grant of nobility are excluded.
