This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Comment: Also, please note that all future submissions should be made at Draft:Christy Kinard. I realize that it can get confusing when new to Wikipedia, but keeping the draft at the same location makes it easier for editors to improve the draft as well as reviewers to review. Christy Kinard is an American mixed-media artist based in South Carolina. She is known for her floral compositions that combine paint, paper, and textiles. Kinard’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and featured in multiple art and lifestyle publications.
Early life and education
[edit]Kinard was born in Georgia and raised in a creative family environment. She studied fine art at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the Atlanta College of Art, where she began developing her layered, textural style. Her early work was influenced by Southern traditions, family symbolism, and textile-based storytelling.
Career
[edit]Kinard began exhibiting professionally in her late teens. Her paintings often incorporate collage, acrylic, and fabric, producing richly layered surfaces that reflect both personal and cultural memory. She has exhibited in galleries in Charleston, Atlanta, Palm Beach, Boston, and other cities across the United States.
In 2023, Kinard was the subject of a feature article in Vivant Magazine titled "Collage of a Southerner," which profiled her studio process and her collector following.[1] The article described her work as blending *"fabric and florals into layered compositions that feel both intimate and bold."*
In 2020, Local Life Magazine featured Kinard in a two-page profile highlighting her artistic process, including her approach to color and daily studio routines. The article noted: *"Standing in a room of Christy Kinard’s glossy floral paintings is like walking deep in a sun-lit garden, exuberant with color, texture, and passion."*[2]
Kinard was also profiled in the December 2012/January 2013 issue of Professional Artist Magazine, which explored how she balances artmaking with family life. She reflected on her schedule, stating: *"There is flexibility in this job that I can use to my advantage or disadvantage… I think I push myself to the limits and exhaustion."*[3]
An earlier feature in The Atlantan Magazine focused on Kinard and her sister Kim Schuessler, both working artists. The article described Kinard’s painting style as *"a cheerful expression of how [she feels] about life,"* and included her reflection: *"I had more paint brushes than pencils in my book bag… I loved art from the time I was able to hold a crayon."*[4]
In addition to gallery exhibitions, Kinard’s work has been included in the book 100 Southern Artists by E. Ashley Rooney, which profiles notable painters across the southeastern United States.[5]
Personal life
[edit]Kinard lives and works in South Carolina with her husband, artist and designer Jon Davenport, and their three sons. She maintains a full-time studio practice and has also donated work to several hospitals and nonprofit causes.
