Samir Acharjee
[edit]Samir Acharjee is an Indian tabla player from India, recognized as one of the finest and most promising rising percussionists of his generation. He has received training from renowned tabla maestros and has performed extensively across India and abroad.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Samir Acharjee was born in Kolkata, India. He began his tabla training at the age of five under the guidance of his father, Dipak Acharjee, and received additional musical training from his mother, Sankari Acharjee. During his childhood, he won numerous awards for his tabla solo performances, showcasing his exceptional talent from an early age.
He later pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English. In addition to his musical pursuits, he works as a primary teacher under the West Bengal Government.
Musical Training
[edit]Samir Acharjee continues his advanced training under the internationally renowned tabla maestro, Pandit Abhijit Banerjee [1], a distinguished exponent of the Farukhabad Gharana. His rigorous training and dedication have contributed to his growing reputation in the field of Indian classical music.
Career
[edit]Acharjee is a recognized tabla artist for All India Radio and Doordarshan Kolkata. He has performed across major cultural hubs in India, including Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, and Bangalore, as well as in various locations across the subcontinent. His performances have received critical acclaim for their depth, precision, and musicality.
He has accompanied many esteemed artists, including Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandopadhyay, Pandit Mohan Lal Mishra, Pandit Debiprasad Chatterjee, Pandit Tushar Dutta, Vidushi Anjana Nath, Vidushi Anusoya Mukherjee, Vidushi Krishna Majumder, Dr. Niladri Sen, Vidushi Mandira Lahiri, Ustad Raza Ali Khan, Anol Chatterjee, and Swapan Majumder.
Awards and Recognition

In 2012, he was honored by ISKCON for his contributions to tabla.
In 2014, he received recognition from Surashree Sangeet Bhavan.
In 2015, he was honored in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, in memory of Ustad Rabiul Hossein.
In 2025, he performed at Sadarang Music Festival [2] which was a National Music Festival in Bangladesh.
Over the years, numerous cultural organizations have recognized his musical contributions.
Contributions to Indian Classical Music
[edit]In 2013, Acharjee founded Nabadwip Sangeet Chakra, a non-profit organization dedicated to the teaching and preservation of Indian classical music. As its director and principal, he has trained numerous students, nurturing the next generation of musicians.
He has also performed on various television channels, including Doordarshan, Tara TV, Akash 8, UBangla TV, R Plus TV, Om Bangla TV, Globe TV, and Ruposhi Bangla in Kolkata, as well as Baishakhi TV [3], Diganta TV [4] and SA TV in Bangladesh.
