Nelson Agricola Bautista (born June 28, 1975) is a multi-awarded Filipino registered nurse, clinical educator, and advocate for nurse wellbeing. He has worked in healthcare systems across the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United States. Bautista is known for his leadership in nursing education, his international recognition for healthcare worker wellbeing initiatives, and his contributions to professional nursing development globally.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Bautista was born and raised in Guiguinto, Bulacan, Philippines. Inspired by his father’s work overseas, he aspired to build a nursing career that would bring honor to his family.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, cum laude, from Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. (formerly Dr. Yanga’s Francisco Balagtas Colleges) in Bulacan. He worked as a student assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences and later as an office assistant after graduation.
Professional Career
[edit]Bautista began his nursing career in the Philippines and then worked in Saudi Arabia for seven years. In 2008, he joined Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, where he served for over 17 years. He held several leadership roles, including Clinical Resource Nurse, covering surgical wards, outpatient departments, VIP/Royal suites, and Endoscopy.
At Tawam Hospital, he led several major programs:
- The DAISY Award Program
- Nursing Preceptorship and Onboarding
- Staff Competency and Development Tracking
- Your Health First – a wellbeing program that received international recognition[1]
He was the Editor-in-Chief of Nursing Matters, Tawam Hospital’s internal nursing newsletter, and an editorial board member of NBRAS, the SEHA-wide quarterly nursing publication.
Bautista was also involved in the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence accreditation process, serving as the Wellbeing Standard Lead. He has been an invited speaker at international conferences, where he presented on topics including nurse wellbeing, digital education innovation, and clinical leadership.
In 2025, he migrated to the United States with his family and currently practices nursing in Maryland.

Personal Life
[edit]On June 23, 2007, Bautista married Civil Engineer Bernadette Gregorio, who was his classmate in grade school and high school. They have one son, Inigo Gregorio Bautista, and currently reside in the United States.
He is the second of four siblings. His older sister, Renallie Bautista Estrella, is a public elementary school teacher. His younger brothers, Rizalito and John Justin, reside in Canada and the Philippines respectively; John Justin is a high school teacher.
Their parents are Renato Palileo Bautista of Guiguinto, Bulacan, and Lilia Ferrer Agricola of Libmanan, Camarines Sur.
