Freisinn

• The first stanza of Freisinn was inspired by the dictum of a Ghalghai (Ingush) highlander who rejected an offer of submission with a simple reply:

"Above my hat are only the stars"

• The second stanza contains lines from the Quran (Surah 6:97).

Let me hold sway in my saddle!
You stay in your huts, in your tents!
I ride off gladly into the distance,
Above my hat are only the stars.

He has set the constellations
To guide you over land and sea,
That you may delight in them
As you gaze upward.
