Racism in Canada has manifested itself in a variety of ways through its history including; slavery, Indigenous genocide, antisemitism, head taxs, internment camps. Modern day Canadian abusesviolence faced by Indigenous females, reports of excessive force used by law enforcement and racial profiling targeting visible minority, concern with the treatment of migrants and refugees and the freedom of religion and language expression in Quebec society.[1][2][3]
tnstitutional racism entrenched systemic racism permeates every institutional framework within the country. This indicates that the established systems were constructed to favor white colonizers while marginalizing the Indigenous communities that inhabited these lands before colonial expansion. This hierarchical relationship continues to be sustained and reinforced in contemporary society, affecting newly arrived racialized individuals as well.
In 2016, Statistics Canada reported that Black individuals of Canadian descent were significantly less prone to pursuing post-secondary education than their peers in the general population.
