[2]

Life and Early Career

[edit]

Arnold Torres, better known by his stage name “Young Quicks”, was born in Oxnard, California. His early life was marked by a passion for poetry, which he began writing at age 13. However, his transition to music came during his high school years when he realized that poetry couldn't fully convey his experiences and stories about life's struggles.[3]

Young Quicks started his music career by creating and selling homemade CDs to friends and classmates.[4] His unique approach, blending poetic lyrics with motivational content in rap, quickly garnered attention. This led to performances at local high schools and opportunities to open for high-profile artists such as DJ Quik, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Nelly and David Banner. [5] His early shows were characterized by high energy and a personal connection with his audience, which helped build his reputation in the local music scene. [6]

Current Career

[edit]

Young Quicks, continues to be an active figure in the Hip Hop. In 2023 Young Quicks participated in "MoonRocks" with Bigg CIXX, showcasing his versatility by blending different musical elements. [7] In 2024 Young Quicks released "Oxnard" featuring Fingazz, a song dedicated to his hometown, which has gained significant traction among local listeners and fans of Hip Hop. [8] This track celebrates Oxnard's culture, places, and people, with the music video showcasing landmarks and community spirit.

Philanthropy

[edit]

Growing up in Oxnard under the support of Section 8 housing, Young Quicks was deeply influenced by the community's spirit, particularly by the toy drives organized by boxing legend Fernando Vargas.[9] Inspired by these events, he has hosted an annual massive toy drive at Hueneme High School since 2012, the event provides hot meals, gifts, and special guest appearances, bringing joy and holiday cheer to many children in the Oxnard community, echoing the generosity he experienced in his youth. [10]

His efforts have been recognized by the California State Assembly and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for his significant contributions to community welfare.

Additionally, in 2024, he was awarded the Awesome in Autism Award by the Autism Society Ventura County for his dedicated community work.[11]
