Hainan black-crested gibbon
[edit]The Hainan black-crested gibbon, also known as the Hainan gibbon, is a critically endangered species of gibbon with only an estimated 37 individuals remaining. In the late twentieth century, these creatures suffered from extreme habitat loss as their habitats were used as palm oil farms.
Habitat
[edit]The hainan gibbon can be found on Hainan island in the South China sea. This species inhabits three different types of forests on this island, the primary forest, secondary forest, and the dwarf forest. The primary forest is the main area of habitation for these animals as it provides shelter, food, and trees that grow up to 10 meters or more which the hainan gibbons prefer to shorter trees.
