Comment: The decline with the request to merge truly means that was the end of this road. It was more polite than the rejection, whivh is final. Merge it please đ”đžâđșđŠ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me đșđŠâđ”đž 19:18, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos
[edit]Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos* was a military operation launched by the *Pakistan Armed Forces* in early May 2025, involving coordinated missile and aerial drone offensives aimed at select Indian military and strategic targets. The operation marked a significant escalation in IndiaâPakistan tensions but ultimately resulted in a major operational failure for Pakistan, with most of its incoming projectiles intercepted and several of its drones and fighter aircraft reportedly neutralized by Indian defence systems and retaliatory actions.
Background
[edit]The operationâs name, Bunyan-ul-Marsoos (Arabic for "Solid Structure" or "Fortified Foundation"), was first referenced by sources in Pakistan's defence media in late April 2025. It was reportedly intended as a show of strength and deterrence following a series of diplomatic confrontations and skirmishes along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border.
Intelligence sources in India and international media later reported that Pakistan had mobilized a combination of surface-to-surface missiles, armed drones, and fighter aircraft for a limited precision strike campaign.
The Operation
[edit]In the early hours of 9 May 2025, multiple missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were launched from Pakistani territory towards targets in northern India. The city of *Hisar, Haryana*, was reportedly the primary target, given its strategic significance in hosting an Indian Air Force base and logistical infrastructure.
According to the *Indian Ministry of Defence, Indian Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) and ground-based air defence systemsâincluding the **S-400 Triumf* and *Akash SAM units*âsuccessfully intercepted and destroyed the incoming threats. No significant damage or casualties were reported on Indian soil.
Additionally, the Indian Air Force scrambled interceptors that downed at least two Pakistani drones and reportedly shot down one JF-17 fighter jet near the border, though Pakistan has not officially confirmed the loss.
Indian Response and Retaliation
[edit]In retaliation, the Indian Air Force launched precision strikes on three key Pakistani airbases alleged to be involved in launching or coordinating the failed operation:
* *PAF Base Nur Khan (Rawalpindi)*
[edit]* *Murid Airbase (Chakwal)*
[edit]* *Rafiqui Airbase (Shorkot)*
[edit]Indian officials claimed the strikes were designed to degrade Pakistanâs offensive capability and deter future provocations. Satellite images and limited on-ground footage suggested visible damage to infrastructure, hangars, and radar installations at the targeted bases.
Failure and Aftermath
[edit]Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos is widely considered a strategic failure for Pakistan. The failure of its air defence systems to protect its bases during the Indian retaliation, the downing of its drones and jet(s), and the inability to inflict any real damage on Indian targets led to internal and external criticism.
According to Indian security analysts and several international observers:
* The operational planning of Pakistanâs strike lacked real-time adaptability and failed to factor in Indiaâs missile interception capabilities.
* The loss of combat drones and at least one fighter jet added to the embarrassment for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
* The failure of Pakistan's Integrated Air Defence Network (IADN) to counter India's retaliatory strikes on well-established bases like Murid and Rafiqui highlighted a critical vulnerability.
Official Statements
[edit]India : The Indian government hailed the interception and retaliatory strikes as âa calibrated but firm response to aggression.â The Ministry of Defence emphasized that India reserved the right to respond further if provoked.
Pakistan : Pakistanâs **DG ISPR* acknowledged the damage at its airbases but offered no confirmation regarding drone or aircraft losses. The operation was described as a âlimited engagement to demonstrate capability,â without commenting on its failure.
International Reactions
[edit]* *United Nations*: The UN Secretary-General urged both sides to exercise restraint and offered to mediate.
[edit]* *United States* and *European Union*: Expressed concern about the escalation but commended the absence of civilian casualties.
* *Strategic Analysts*: Many referred to Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos as a âmiscalculated show of forceâ that backfired diplomatically and militarily on Pakistan.
Legacy
[edit]Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos has been described as one of the most consequential tactical missteps in recent South Asian military history. While it was intended to display strength, its failure led to deeper scrutiny of Pakistanâs military preparedness and prompted a visible shift in India's doctrine toward preemptive and retaliatory targeting of deep-strike assets.
