The Barnstar of Good Humor |
I really like your positive and uplifting vibe at places like the Help Desk or the Village Pump. It makes my mood better, and I assume it's the same for other editors. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! TheWikiToby (talk) 20:55, 21 November 2024 (UTC) |
I will always treasure this barnstar — not just because it's my first but also because it's very touching. To me, the Wiki tradition of giving barnstars is a symbol of the joy we find in sharing construction of the world's largest encyclopedia. Despite occasional outbursts arising from our differing individual insights, the Wiki mission helps keep us at a higher level on life's humbling learning curve. The warm glow of having been awarded this barnstar made me aware that it was time for me to begin doing the same. Barnstars are a delightful way to recognize and encourage the amazing gifts and contributions I keep finding among Wikipedia editors. And much more picturesque than a simple thank-you!

MY ORIGINAL WRITE-UP AS A BRAND NEW EDITOR
Hello, Wiki world. I'm a transplanted American on the other side of the globe.
How I got my "Wiki handle" ... around the same time I came on board with Wikipedia, I'd been looking at Iceland Air's website a lot to get some flight information, and I found it so cute what the airline kept flashing on the screen in the few seconds between my making a request for flight information and when it would arrive: "Augnablik: that means just a second in Icelandic, literally 'blink of an eye.'" That's my only connection to Iceland, if you can call it that!
I've done a lot of proofreading and editing over my life, though I identify more as an educator, instructional designer, and writer. But I'm one of those picky people who react to egregiously awful grammar, punctuation, and spelling — as well as lack of clarity and coherence — the same way as if I heard nails screeching down a chalkboard.
Tip of the day...
Articles for Creation (AFC) process
When you create an article through Wikipedia's Articles for Creation process, it creates a draft in the Drafts area. The purpose of AfC process is to help new editors learn how to write better articles. If accepted, your draft can be a valuable contribution to the encyclopedia. Wikipedia is over 17 years old and has well over five million articles. The vast majority of those articles never went through AfC which is only a few years old. AfC works as a peer review process in which registered editors can either help create an article submitted or decline the article because it is unsuitable for Wikipedia. To nominate an existing draft or user sandbox for review at Articles for Creation, add the code – – See also: To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd3}}
